Alvan Ikoku College of Education Gets New Provost

Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Ngozi Lemchi Alvan Ikoku College Provost

Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Ngozi Lemchi has been named Provost of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, for a four-year term by President Muhammadu Buhari. Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Ngozi Lemchi is the College’s 13th substantive Provost and the institution’s second female Provost since its establishment.

The letter confirming the appointment was signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who congratulated Dr. (Mrs.) Lemchi on her appointment and wished her a fruitful time in office on behalf of the President.

Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Ngozi Lemchi received her PhD in Home Economics Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as her M.Ed Home Economics and B. Sc Home Science and Nutrition from the same institution. Between 1981 through 1986, she attended the Federal Government College in Okigwe on a Federal Government scholarship.

Prior to her appointment, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Lemchi served as the College’s Deputy Provost. She was previously the Head of the Department of Home Economics from 2011 to 2015 and the Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship from 2015 to 2019. Her primary areas of interest as a Home Economist include entrepreneurship, skill acquisition promotion, and curriculum creation.

She has served on numerous College Committees over the years, most recently as Chairman of the 48th Convocation Committee. College Research Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, and Academic Board Business Committee are among the others. She belongs to the Alvan Volunteer Corps.

She has served on numerous occasions as a resource person for organisations such as the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), and the Gender and Child Rights Organization (GCRI) (a non-governmental organisation).

Lemchi is a member of the Home Economics Research Association of Nigeria (HERAN), the Curriculum Organisation of Nigeria (CON), the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), and the International Research and Development Institute (IRDI).

Stella N. Lemchi is from Ehime Mbano LGA in Imo State. She is married to Professor Jones Lemchi, with whom she has three children.
