The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is proud to announce the 4th edition of the ASUU Indigent Student Scholarship for 2023. This initiative, which began in 2018, continues to gain momentum, offering more significant assistance to deserving students year after year.

A Glimpse into the Scholarship’s Evolution

Since its inception in 2018, the ASUU Indigent Student Scholarship aimed to aid one indigent student per public university with a substantial amount of One hundred thousand naira (N100,000). However, in this 4th edition, the union has decided to take it up a notch. The scholarship amount has been revised to a remarkable Two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) for two deserving students per university on a one-off basis.

Key Eligibility Criteria

Understanding the requirements is the first step towards successfully securing the scholarship. Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  1. University Enrollment: Must be registered undergraduate students of MAU, Yola for the 2022/2023 academic session.
  2. Academic Merit: Demonstrable good academic performance, with a CGPA of 3.0 and above during the 2020/2021 academic term.
  3. Year Level: Applicants should be from 200-500 levels in the 2022/2023 academic session.

How to Apply

Application for this prestigious scholarship has been streamlined to ensure clarity and ease:

  1. Written Application: A typed application letter is crucial. This should comprise:
    • The applicant’s full name.
    • The course and current academic year.
    • State of origin.
    • Reasoning as to why they believe they deserve the award.
  2. Supporting Documents: To provide a holistic view of the applicant’s credentials, the following should accompany the application:
    • A recent passport photograph of the applicant.
    • A letter from the student’s current Head of Department, detailing the CGPA for the preceding academic year.
    • A copy of the registration form for the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year.
    • A comprehensive curriculum vitae (CV) highlighting academic achievements and functional contact details.
  3. Deadline: The clock is ticking, and applications need to be submitted by or before Monday, 23rd October 2023. Prospective awardees can submit their applications at the ASUU Secretariat in LT3/4.

The Review Process and Interview

Once all applications are in, shortlisted candidates should mark their calendars for Wednesday, 25th October 2023. They will be invited for an interview at 10am at the ASUU Secretariat, LT3/4 MAU Yola.

The Big Announcement

The successful candidates will be duly recognised at a zonal level, and the scholarship will officially be launched on November 12, 2023, at the ASUU National Secretariat, Comrade Festus Iyayi Complex, University of Abuja, Main Campus, Gwagwalada.
