BOSU Renamed Kashim Ibrahim University, Effective August 2025
Borno State University has officially been renamed Kashim Ibrahim University. The change takes effect from 4 August 2025, following approval by the state governor. Staff and the public are advised to adopt the new name in all official use.
Borno State University, known across the state as BOSU, now has a new identity. By law and signature, it has been renamed Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), effective from 4 August 2025.
The notice came straight from the governor’s office, signed and sealed. It is no small matter either, for a university’s name carries weight, heritage, and the stamp of its time. From now on, everything tied to the school—letters, circulars, official files—must bear the new title.
What the Name Change Means
For staff, students, and the public, the shift is more than just a swap of letters. It means:
- All correspondence must reflect Kashim Ibrahim University.
- Circulars, reports, and memos issued from offices must use the new name.
- External dealings with ministries, partners, and other bodies must recognise the updated identity.
In simple terms, BOSU is no more, KIU is the name to remember.
Call for Compliance
The directive did not stop at the announcement. Principal officers, provosts, deans, directors, and heads of units have been urged to ensure the change flows through their departments without delay. Everyone is expected to fall in line, no room for half-measures.
A Final Word
With this change, the state has tied the university’s future to a new banner, one that honours Kashim Ibrahim. Transitions like this can feel strange at first, but soon the new name will stick, as old habits fade away. Staff and students alike are expected to adapt quickly, and the wider public will do the same in due course.
