2023 Policy Meeting: JAMB Set Cut Off Marks, Reveals Top Scores

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and tertiary education stakeholders have established the cut-off marks for 2023 university admissions in Nigeria. The cut-off is 140 for universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education. This decision will affect private universities that had earlier chosen lower minimum points, as they'll now need to increase their thresholds to at least 140.

The University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos emerge as the top choices of universities in Nigeria for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations. As presented by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2023 policy meeting, these universities have attracted a high number of applicants in the 2023 UTME application period. The list also includes Lagos State University, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, University of Benin, University of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nnamdi Azikwe University, Nigerian Defence Academy, and the University of Ibadan.

Top UTME 2023 Scorers Revealed by JAMB - Meet the Champions

Miss Umeh Kamsiyochukwu Nkechinyere from Anambra state has been declared as the top candidate in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Nkechinyere scored 360 and plans to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Lagos. Aguele Stephen Oseruha from Edo State, with a score of 358, was named the second-best candidate, followed closely by Ositade Oluwafemi Anthony from Ogun State, who also scored 358. The announcement was made by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2023 Policy Meeting in Abuja.

Direct Entry Candidates Now Required to Sit for UTME: JAMB

JAMB has introduced a new policy, requiring Direct Entry candidates to take the UTME. This change, aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability, was announced by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's Head of Public Affairs and Protocol. In addition, the board remitted an interim surplus of N2 billion for 2023.
