How to Check Your NIN Using USSD Codes and Online 2025

Can’t remember your NIN? You’re not alone. Whether you lost the slip or just never saved the number, there’s no need to stress. You can check it right from your phone (via USSD codes from major network providers like MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, and 9mobile) or online without leaving your house. Here’s how.

What to Know Before You Start

There are a few things to keep in mind:

• It costs a small fee (around ₦20) to check your NIN with a phone.
• Use the number linked to your NIN, or it won’t work.
• Keep it private. Your NIN is personal, like a fingerprint. Don’t share it with others.

How to Check Your NIN via USSD

All the major networks in Nigeria support the same code, so it doesn’t matter if you’re using MTN, Airtel, GLO or 9mobile.

Dial *346# from the line you used to register your NIN.

You’ll see a menu. Press 1 for NIN Retrieval.

You’ll get a message telling you the service isn’t free. Press 1 again to accept the charge.

Your NIN will pop up on the screen.

Write it down right away or save it somewhere safe.

How to Check Your NIN Online

If you prefer using the internet or want to do more, there’s another option. You’ll need the NIMC MWS Mobile App.

1. Download the NIMC MWS Mobile App:
   • iPhone: Download here
   • Android: Download here
2. Install and Launch the App: Open the app and click “I need a pin.”
3. Get Your User ID and OTP: Note down the user ID and OTP displayed in the “Get OTP” section.
4. Access the NIMC Portal: Use the user ID and OTP at the NIMC online portal to view your details as shown on your NIN slip.
5. Reprint Your NIN Slip: From the portal, you can choose to reprint your NIN slip if needed.

How to Check If Your NIN Card Is Ready

If you want to check whether your National Identity Card is ready for collection, head to the NIMC website. Follow these steps:

1. Scroll down to the ‘e-ID Card Status Portal’.
2. Enter your first name, last name, and NIMC tracking ID.
3. Click ‘Check Now’.

The portal will let you know if your card is ready and where to collect it.
