IDG 2025 National Girls Leadership Essay Competition Announced
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has opened the IDG 2025 National Girls Leadership Essay Competition. Young Nigerian girls aged 10 to 20 are invited to write and submit before 28th September 2025. Read below for full details.
In honour of the International Day of the Girl-Child 2025, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, working with the United Nations Population Fund, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the Girl-Youth Reform Initiative of Nigeria, has rolled out a special national essay competition. The goal is to shine a light on the strength and voices of Nigerian girls.
The theme this year reads: “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.”
It is a call for young girls to reflect, to write from the heart about how they lead, even in hard times, whether at home, in school, or in their communities.
About the IDG 2025 National Girls Leadership Essay Competition
This competition is designed to bring out stories of leadership and resilience. Through writing, participants are asked to share their experiences, their small wins, and their big hopes for a better Nigeria. It is not just about essays, it is about finding voices that can inspire and lead.
Eligibility for IDG 2025 National Girls Leadership Essay Competition
Applicants must:
- Be female citizens of Nigeria.
- Fall between the ages of 10 and 20.
The organisers have kept the age range tight, so that the focus remains on young female adolescents who are stepping into leadership roles early.
Prizes and Opportunities in the Essay Competition
The prizes go beyond cash, they open doors to leadership exposure.
- First Prize: The winner will serve as Shadow Minister for Youth Development for a whole day, a rare chance to sit in the shoes of leadership and see governance up close.
- Top Three Winners: Each will receive cash prizes and be invited to the Girls Future Conference 2025 (GFC2025), a high-level gathering to sharpen their leadership skills further.
