The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) essay competition has been announced for 2024. This is an opportunity for students from secondary and tertiary institutions to participate and showcase their writing skills.

Categories of the EFCC Essay Competition
Tertiary Category
Topic: “Using Technology for Social Good: How Digital Solutions Can Be Leveraged to Promote Transparency in Governance.”
Participants should write about 1,500 words. Focus on originality, logical presentation, and how technology can enhance governance transparency. Discuss healthcare, environmental issues, or how digital tools can be used for social and educational purposes.
Secondary Category
Topic: “Exploring Alternatives to Cybercrimes for Sustainable Development.”
Participants should write about 1,000 words. Focus on originality, clarity, and profiling alternatives to cybercrimes. Suggest ways for young people to channel creativity into positive online pursuits like digital art, music, writing, or entrepreneurship.
Conditions for Participation
- Word count: 1,500 words for tertiary and 1,000 words for secondary category.
- Use double spacing.
- Use Font 14, Century Gothic.
- Submit entries to info@efcc.gov.ng.
Submission and Timing
Submissions begin on Thursday, August 8, 2024, and close on Monday, September 9, 2024. Winners will be invited to a Cybercrime Summit scheduled for October 2024.
Procedures
Six winners will be selected from Nigeria—three each from the secondary and tertiary categories. These winners will be invited to Abuja for the award presentation.
Prizes
Tertiary Category
- Winner: N800,000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)
- First Runner-up: N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira)
- Second Runner-up: N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira)
Secondary Category
- Winner: N700,000 (Seven Hundred Thousand Naira)
- First Runner-up: N400,000 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira)
- Second Runner-up: N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira)
Important Notes
- Entries assisted by AI will be disqualified.
- Children and wards of EFCC personnel are not eligible to participate.
