Federal Polytechnic Ayede: application for Rector

The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Rector. The position will become vacant on 16 March 2026.

The Rector

The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic. The Rector holds general authority over staff and students and is responsible for discipline in the Polytechnic, under the general control of the Governing Council. The Rector is also one of the Principal Officers of the Polytechnic.

Along with proven management and leadership experience, the successful candidate must show real interest in academic work and must be credible.

Academic qualifications and qualities

The candidate must meet these requirements:

  1. A Doctorate (PhD) from a recognised school in a discipline offered in the Polytechnic sector, or any requirement stated in the Schemes of Service for appointment as a Chief Lecturer.
  2. At least a second class lower division degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) with Lower Credit in a discipline offered in the Polytechnic sector from a recognised school.
  3. A minimum of seventeen (17) years teaching experience in tertiary schools, with at least ten (10) years gained in a Polytechnic or similar TVET school.
  4. A Chief Lecturer from the Polytechnic sector with not less than five (5) years on the rank.
  5. Not more than fifty-nine (59) years of age as at 16 March 2026.
  6. Evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative and creativity in policy work, good human relations, and positive managerial attributes.
  7. Evidence of membership of professional body or bodies recognised by the Federal Government.
  8. Evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals, plus presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars and workshops.
  9. Ability to attract research grants and development facilities to the Polytechnic.
  10. A person with initiative and vision, with the capacity to sustain the accelerated pace of development of the Polytechnic even under financial and other challenging constraints.
  11. A person who is not likely to pursue racial, gender, political, religious, or other sectional interests.
  12. Morally sound, of impeccable character, with proven integrity and free from financial embarrassment.
  13. Physically and mentally fit, with evidence from a Government hospital.
  14. Proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Terms of appointment and condition of service

The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years in line with extant provisions. Salary is consolidated, and the appointee will enjoy other benefits attached to the position of a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic, as approved by the Federal Government.

Applicants must submit typed copies of the application letter and curriculum vitae, and attach photocopies of all relevant documents to the application (twenty (20) copies). The details should be arranged in this order:

  3. State of Origin and Local Government Area
  4. Nationality and how acquired
  5. Marital status
  6. Current postal address, phone number, and email address
  7. Educational schools attended with dates
  8. Academic and professional qualifications obtained with dates
  9. Membership of professional bodies or associations
  10. Honours and distinctions (if any)
  11. Academic or scholarly publications
  12. Conferences attended and papers presented with dates
  13. Previous employer(s) and post(s) held with dates
  14. Present employment, including status, duties, and any other relevant experience
  15. Statement of own vision for the Polytechnic (20 copies)
  16. Other activities outside current employment
  17. Names and addresses of three (3) referees (Employer, Educational and Personal)

Referees are to forward confidential reports directly to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State. The referees should be able to confirm the candidate’s academic and managerial ability, and the candidate’s uprightness too.
