A. Qualifications for Academic Staff Positions
1. Professor
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline with a minimum of twelve (12) years of continuous university teaching and research experience. A strong record of distinguished scholarship is required, normally evidenced by at least thirty (30) peer-reviewed publications in reputable local journals, out of which thirteen (13) must be from foreign, indexed journals. Candidates must also demonstrate sustained postgraduate supervision to completion, significant external research funding or leadership of major projects, and substantial administrative or academic leadership experience. Registration with relevant professional bodies (where applicable) is required.
2. Reader / Associate Professor
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in the relevant field with at least nine (9) years of uninterrupted teaching and research experience in a university or an equivalent environment. Applicants must have a sustained record of scholarly achievement, normally evidenced by a minimum of twenty-five (25) peer-reviewed publications, out of which seven (7) must be from foreign, indexed journals. Candidates must show substantial postgraduate supervision, conference leadership, and demonstrable administrative or academic leadership experience. Professional recognition and registration (where applicable) are required.
3. Senior Lecturer
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in the appropriate discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of university teaching and research experience, a good record of publications (minimum twelve (12) peer-reviewed scholarly works, out of which five (5) must be from foreign, indexed journals), and evidence of postgraduate supervision and administrative contributions. Candidates should normally have served at the Lecturer I level for a minimum of two (2) years (where applicable) and must demonstrate impact in teaching, research, and community engagement.
4. Lecturer I
Candidates should normally hold a Ph.D. in the appropriate discipline, with at least three (3) years of post-doctoral or lecturing experience and a demonstrable record of scholarly publications (minimum six (6) peer-reviewed journal articles). Where relevant, a Ph.D. combined with appropriate professional certification or registration may be considered. Applicants are expected to have a developing record of teaching effectiveness and student supervision.
5. Lecturer II
Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline OR a Master’s degree with at least three (3) years of university teaching or research experience plus evidence of scholarly output (minimum two (2) journal publications). Alternatively, candidates who have served a minimum of two (2) years as an Assistant Lecturer with satisfactory teaching and research evidence may be considered. Professional registration, where applicable, is an added advantage.
6. Assistant Lecturer
Candidates must have a Master’s degree (M.Sc., M.A., or equivalent) in the relevant discipline from a recognized university. Evidence of registration with relevant professional bodies is an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate potential for academic development and engagement in scholarly activities (e.g., undergraduate teaching experience, presentations, conference papers).
7. Graduate Assistant
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Second Class Upper Division (2:1) Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university. Evidence of admission into or enrollment in a postgraduate (Master’s) programme is an advantage. NYSC discharge, exemption, or valid proof (where applicable) is required.
B. Non-Teaching Staff Qualifications
I. Administration and Registry Services
1. Administrative Officer I (CONTISS 09)
A candidate for Administrative Officer I should possess a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Law, or a related field, OR a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division in a relevant field.
- With a Master’s degree: A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification administrative experience is required.
- With a Bachelor’s degree: A minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification administrative experience is required.
The role demands strong administrative, leadership, and communication skills, with essential computer literacy. Membership of recognized professional administrative bodies (e.g., NIM) is an added advantage.
2. Administrative Officer II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate for Administrative Officer II should possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division in Public Administration, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or other social sciences/humanities fields. This is an entry-level professional administrative position requiring completion of mandatory national service (NYSC) and essential computer literacy (MS Office Suite). A postgraduate diploma in a relevant field would be an added advantage.
3. Higher Executive Officer (General Duty) (CONTISS 07)
A candidate should possess a Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Upper Credit, OR a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. The role requires:
- A minimum of two (2) years of post-qualification administrative experience
- Essential computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
Relevant professional certification is an added advantage.
4. Confidential Secretary I (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Secretarial Administration or Office Technology and Management with a minimum of Upper Credit.
Requirements include:
- A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification experience
- Strong shorthand skills (e.g., 120 wpm)
- Strong typing skills (e.g., 60 wpm)
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
A certificate in desktop publishing or advanced computer applications is an added advantage.
5. Procurement Officer II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. Completion of mandatory national service (NYSC) and computer literacy (including procurement software and MS Excel) are required. Professional certifications such as CIPS or CIPSMN are added advantages.
6. Legal Officer II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate must possess an LL.B with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division and a B.L from the Nigerian Law School (or recognized equivalent). Requirements include:
- Completion of NYSC
- Being called to the Bar
- Computer literacy for legal research
An LL.M or specialized legal training is an added advantage.
7. Agricultural Officer II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division in Agronomy, Crop Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Soil Science, or a related field. Completion of NYSC and essential computer literacy are required. A postgraduate diploma or specialized agricultural training is an added advantage.
8. Sports Officer II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division in Physical Education, Sports Science, Recreation Management, or a related discipline. Requirements include:
- Completion of NYSC
- Coaching certifications in relevant sports
- Essential computer literacy
A Master’s degree in Sports Management or a related field is an added advantage.
9. Store Keeper (CONTISS 05)
A candidate should possess SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level with at least five (5) credits, including English Language and Mathematics, plus a recognized certificate in Storekeeping, Warehousing, or Logistics.
Additional requirements:
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
- Basic computer literacy (including inventory software)
An OND in a related field is an added advantage.
10. Porter (CONTISS 03)
A candidate should possess SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level or equivalent basic education. This entry-level role requires physical fitness, basic communication skills, and preferably some experience in a service role. Basic security awareness training is an added advantage.
11. Motor Driver Mechanic (CONTISS 04)
A candidate should possess SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level with passes in relevant subjects. Requirements include:
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional driving and vehicle maintenance experience
- Valid national driver’s license (appropriate class)
- Trade Test Certificate Grade I or II in Motor Mechanics
Advanced driving certification is an added advantage.
II. Medical and Health Services
12. Medical Officer I (CONTISS 09)
A candidate must possess MBBS/MBBCh or MD from a recognized institution. Essential requirements include:
- Full registration with MDCN
- Current practicing license
- Completion of NYSC
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-registration clinical experience
Computer literacy is essential. Postgraduate medical certifications are an added advantage.
13. Pharmacist I (CONTISS 09)
A candidate must possess B.Pharm or Pharm.D from a recognized institution. Requirements include:
- Full registration with PCN
- Current practicing license
- Completion of NYSC
- Minimum of three (3) years post-registration experience
Computer literacy is essential. A postgraduate diploma in Clinical Pharmacy is an added advantage.
14. Senior Nursing (CONTISS 09)
A candidate must possess a B.Sc. in Nursing Science (Second Class Lower minimum), or RN/RM plus post-basic specialization (e.g., ICU, Anesthesia, Paediatrics). Requirements include:
- Minimum of five (5) years post-registration clinical experience
- Proven supervisory experience
- Current NMCN practicing license
Computer literacy is essential. A Master’s degree in Nursing or Public Health is an added advantage.
15. Medical Laboratory Scientist (CONTISS 08)
A candidate must possess B.MLS or equivalent (Second Class Lower minimum). Requirements include:
- Full registration with MLSCN
- Current practicing license
- Completion of NYSC
- Minimum of one (1) year post-registration experience
Computer literacy is essential. Specialist training is an added advantage.
16. Nursing Officer II (CONTISS 07)
A candidate should possess a B.Sc. in Nursing Science (Second Class Lower minimum), or RN/RM qualifications. Requirements include:
- Completion of NYSC
- Current NMCN practicing license
- Computer literacy
Basic life support certification is an added advantage.
17. Pharmacist Technician (CONTISS 06)
A candidate should possess an OND in Pharmacy Technology (Upper Credit minimum) or a relevant professional certificate. Requirements include:
- Minimum of two (2) years practical experience
- Professional registration
- Computer literacy
Dispensing experience is an added advantage.
18. Medical Laboratory Technician (CONTISS 06)
A candidate should possess an OND in Medical Laboratory Technology (Upper Credit minimum) or a relevant professional certificate. Requirements include:
- Minimum of two (2) years practical experience
- Relevant professional registration
- Computer literacy
Experience with specialized testing protocols is an advantage.
19. Health Record Officer (CONTISS 07)
A candidate should possess a B.Sc. in Health Information Management or Health Records and Biostatistics (Second Class Lower minimum), or HND in Health Information Management (Upper Credit). Requirements include:
- Minimum two (2) years experience
- HRORBN registration
- Completion of NYSC
- Computer literacy (especially HIS software)
Certification in medical coding or data analytics is an advantage.
20. Health Assistant (CONTISS 03)
A candidate should possess SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level or its equivalent. Good communication skills are required. Relevant experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. First aid certification is an added advantage.
III. Bursary and Financial Services
21. Auditor II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower Division in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Requirements include:
- Completion of NYSC
- Computer literacy (especially accounting software)
Professional qualifications in progress or completed (ACA, ACCA, ANAN, CPA) are strong advantages.
22. Senior Executive Officer (Accounts) (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess an HND (Upper Credit) OR a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower minimum) in Accounting or related fields. Requirements include:
- Minimum three (3) years post-qualification experience
- Computer literacy (accounting software, MS Excel)
ATSWA or ACA foundation certification is an added advantage.
23. Higher Executive Officer (Accounts) (CONTISS 07)
A candidate should possess an HND (Upper Credit) OR a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower minimum) in Accounting or related fields. Requirements include:
- Minimum two (2) years post-qualification experience
- Computer literacy (accounting software, MS Excel)
Relevant professional certification is an added advantage.
IV. Library Services
24. Librarian II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate must possess an MLS/MLIS. Requirements include:
- Completion of NYSC
- Computer literacy (library management systems)
Specialization in digital librarianship or archival studies is an added advantage.
25. Library Officer I (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower minimum) OR HND (Upper Credit) in Library and Information Science.
- With a Bachelor’s degree: Minimum three (3) years experience
- With an HND: Minimum five (5) years experience
Computer literacy and certification in database management are added advantages.
26. Library Officer II (CONTISS 07)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower minimum) OR an HND (Upper Credit) in Library and Information Science. Completion of NYSC and basic computer literacy are required. Experience with library software is an advantage.
V. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Services
27. Programme Analyst II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower minimum) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields. Requirements include:
- Completion of NYSC
- Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, etc.)
- Database knowledge (SQL, etc.)
Industry certifications (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft) are an added advantage.
28. Data Processing Officer (CONTISS 07)
A candidate should possess an HND (Upper Credit) OR OND (Upper Credit) in Computer Science, Data Processing, or related fields. Requirements include:
- Minimum two (2) years post-qualification experience
- Strong computer literacy and typing skills
Experience with database systems or statistical software is an advantage.
VI. Works and Services Department (Engineering and Technical)
29. Engineer II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess B.Eng., B.Tech, or equivalent (Second Class Lower minimum) in relevant engineering fields (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc.). Requirements include:
- Completion of NYSC
- Computer literacy (including CAD)
- COREN registration (or evidence of progress)
A postgraduate diploma in a specialized engineering area is an advantage.
30. Technical Officer (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Builder/Architect) (CONTISS 07)
A candidate should possess an HND (Upper Credit) OR OND (Upper Credit) in the relevant field.
- With HND: Minimum three (3) years experience
- With OND: Minimum five (5) years experience
Trade Test Certificate Grade I or II is required. Computer literacy with technical software is essential. Professional certification is an added advantage.
31. Assistant Technical Officer (Mechanical/Civil/Builder/Architect) (CONTISS 06)
A candidate should possess an OND (Upper Credit) in the relevant field OR Trade Test Certificate Grade I or II. Requirements include:
- Minimum two (2) years practical experience
- Basic computer literacy
Additional technical training is an advantage.
VII. Public Relations and Protocol
32. Media Communication Officer (CONTISS 09)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower minimum) in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related fields. Requirements include:
- Minimum three (3) years post-qualification experience
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
- Computer literacy (desktop publishing/multimedia)
A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., NIMPR) is an advantage.
33. Media Communication Officer II (CONTISS 08)
A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower minimum) in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. This entry-level position requires completion of NYSC and essential computer literacy. Experience in content creation or media tools is an added advantage.
