Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Graduates 2,747 Students, 240 Bag First-Class Honours

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has announced that 240 students will graduate with first-class honours out of a total of 2,747 students receiving first degrees in its forthcoming 36th convocation ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, shared the details on campus while briefing journalists on the convocation activities. She highlighted that the outstanding academic performance of the graduates reflects the University’s commitment to academic excellence and discipline.

Breakdown of FUTA Graduating Students

According to Professor Oladiji, the 2,747 graduating students comprise 240 first-class degree holders, 1,479 with second-class upper division, 912 with second-class lower division, and 116 with third-class degrees.

In addition to the undergraduate degrees, 867 postgraduate students will also receive awards, including 627 for MTech, 86 for PGD, and 154 for PhD.

She attributed the remarkable academic achievements to dedication, consistent hard work, and a supportive learning environment. Professor Oladiji reaffirmed that FUTA continues to stand as one of Nigeria’s leading universities of technology, maintaining its reputation for quality education and research-driven excellence.

FUTA’s Academic Progress and Research Focus

Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor noted that despite facing challenges, the University continues to strengthen its role as a leader among Nigeria’s technology-focused universities. FUTA has made notable progress in areas such as climate and space science, agriculture, engineering, and digital technology.

She explained that faculty members and students are increasingly participating in global research collaborations and contributing to scientific development across multiple disciplines.

Professor Oladiji also commented on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), expressing concern about the limited awareness among students regarding the scheme. She mentioned that more than 3,000 FUTA students have benefited from the initiative and encouraged others to apply through the reopened portal.

Government Support and Loan Disbursement

The Federal Government has begun distributing interest-free loans under the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund. The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, launched the exercise at FUTA as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative.

During the event, Dr Alausa revealed that about 30,000 academic and non-academic staff members from various tertiary institutions had applied for the fund, with 9,000 applications approved so far. He was accompanied by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, as they presented cheques to beneficiaries on the Akure campus.
