519 Students Bag First Class as Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Holds 34th & 35th Convocation

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is set to hold its combined 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.

The event, which will celebrate over 6,500 graduates, is scheduled to take place on Friday, 29th November, and Saturday, 30th November, 2024.

The Chancellor, HRH Alhaji Umar Farouk II, Emir of Katagum, will preside over the ceremonies.

Graduating Class Highlights

A total of 519 students will graduate with first-class honours.

Three valedictorians will emerge as the best graduating students for the two academic sessions.

Postgraduate degrees will be awarded to 1,280 students, including:

Convocation Lecture

The convocation lecture, titled “Technological Innovations: A Panacea for Food Insecurity”, will be delivered by Honourable Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior.

This lecture will take place on Friday, 29th November, 2024.

Honorary Degrees

FUTA will confer honorary doctorate degrees on three individuals for their contributions to society and the university.

Emeritus Professors

Three professors will be conferred with the title of Emeritus Professor in recognition of their academic contributions.

Achievements and Accreditations

FUTA students ranked among the top five globally in a space competition organised by the American Astronautical Society.

The CanSat FUTA team became the first African university team to participate in the event.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) granted full accreditation to 18 programmes assessed in 2023, ensuring validity for five years.

The university now boasts 59 programmes with full accreditation.

Event Preparations

Professor Eunice Adeparusi, Chairman of the Ceremonials Committee, announced that measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth ceremony.

Security and transport personnel will be present to manage traffic and ensure safety.

The convocation is expected to run without any disruptions.

FUTA’s Commitment to Excellence

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, reaffirmed FUTA’s standing as Nigeria’s leading university of technology.

She expressed optimism about achieving greater heights in teaching, research, and community service under her leadership.
