GOUNI to Present Certificates to 500 Graduates at Its 13th Convocation

Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu is getting ready for a major event as about five hundred and sixty students look forward to receiving their certificates on Saturday, 6 December 2025.
The update came from the Chairperson of the Senate Ceremonies Committee, Mrs Lynda Ugwuonah, during a live session on Dreams FM Enugu. She explained that the graduating students come from the Faculties of Management and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies, Law, Arts and Education, along with the School of Postgraduate Studies.
Mrs Ugwuonah added that two well-known Nigerians will receive honorary doctorate degrees. She also shared that two senior academics will be honoured with the title of Professor Emeritus.
The convocation events stretch across a full week. They begin with a Holy Mass on Sunday, 30 November. Monday has been marked as Competition Day. Tuesday, 2 December, will include the GOUNI Marathon and a news briefing. Wednesday is planned as Creativity Day. On Thursday, the university will welcome parents for the Parents’ Forum and host Entrepreneurship Day.
Friday will hold the Convocation Lecture, the Hall of Fame induction, and the conferment of Professor Emeritus. The certificate awards will take place on Saturday. A final Holy Mass on Sunday, 7 December, will close the week.
During the programme, Professor Mrs Modesta Egiyi, Chairperson of the GOUNI Marathon Committee and University Bursar, said that more than 70 percent of GOUNI graduates find work after completing their national service. She linked this result to the practical, career-ready skills students gain during their courses.
She also announced that the university’s new DNA Centre at the main campus in Ugwuomu Nike will open in December 2025. Professor Egiyi noted that the GOUNI Marathon, which began in 2022, keeps encouraging good health, teamwork, and unity among young people across Nigeria.
She stated that full safety plans are ready for this year’s marathon. Anyone who is medically unfit or found breaking the rules will not be allowed to join the race.
Godfrey Okoye University continues to make a positive impact across communities in Nigeria, especially in Enugu State. The university stays true to its culture of openness and welcomes people from all walks of life without discrimination.
