New Examination and Plagiarism Tests:
The Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, announced the implementation of intelligence assessment tests for final year students, starting with law students in May. The examination will focus on quantitative, qualitative, and simple logic questions and will be computer-based to minimize malpractice.
The university has also introduced plagiarism tests for final-year projects. Any project found to have more than 25% copied content will be canceled, and the student will be required to redo the work and pay additional school fees. No final year student will be allowed to defend their project without clearance from the University Librarian.
Impact on Students:
Failure in the intelligence examinations will result in a reduction of the student’s Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Students aspiring for first-class degrees, Best All-Round Students, ‘Vice Chancellor for One Day’ titles, and foreign scholarships are advised to study hard.
Improvement in Dress Code and Faculty Rankings:
Anieke acknowledged the improvement in the students’ dress code but warned that after the Easter celebrations, any student found to be improperly dressed would face disciplinary action. He encouraged students from other faculties to emulate the dress code standards set by the faculties of Law and College of Medicine.
Faculties will be ranked based on their compliance with the university’s dress code. The top-ranked faculty will receive N100,000, while the lowest-ranked faculty will pay N100,000.
Easter Break and Awards:
Although there will be no holidays during the Easter celebrations, the VC granted breaks for staff and students residing in Enugu. Students must obtain approval before leaving the campus.
Anieke announced that Vitalis Iloanusi, a 400-Level Student of English and Literary Studies, won a brand new car for emerging as the Best Student and ‘Vice Chancellor for One Day’ of the university this year. The car will be presented on May 5.
Conclusion:
The introduction of Intelligence Assessment Exams and plagiarism tests at Godfrey Okoye University demonstrates the institution’s commitment to maintaining academic integrity and preparing students for future success. These measures will ensure that GOUNI graduates are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen fields.
