KWASU Empowers 15 Women Graduates with Tools for Business Growth

The Centre for Women Development and Entrepreneurship at Kwara State University (KWASU) celebrated the graduation of the 3rd cohort of fifteen women on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024.

The graduates received certificates and empowerment tools to mark the end of their training.

The event highlighted the commitment to empowering women in the community and fostering entrepreneurship.

Vice-Chancellor’s Encouragement to Graduates

The Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of both the university and their communities.

He encouraged them to use the skills and resources gained to uplift themselves and contribute positively to society.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the Centre was set up to provide women with vocational skills that would help them become self-sufficient and create jobs.

Professor Jimoh also shared that while the Akerebiata Centre was the first training hub established, two more centres had since been set up in the other senatorial districts.

Plans for establishing a fourth centre are currently underway.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor announced an increase in the number of participants for future cohorts, raising the number from 15 to 20.

Advice from the Committee Chairman

Professor Mubaraq Sanni, Chairman of the Committee for the Centres for Women Development, also addressed the graduates.

He urged them to make the most of the opportunities given to them during the training.

He emphasised the importance of using the new skills to improve their lives and communities.

Presentation of Empowerment Tools

The graduation ceremony included the presentation of certificates and various empowerment tools.

Graduates received industrial sewing machines and Android phones to help them market their products online.

Three graduates were recognised for their exceptional performance during the training.

They received cash prizes and certificates of excellence for being the most disciplined, enterprising, and impactful among their peers.

The Centre for Women Development and Entrepreneurship continues to make a difference by equipping women with skills to thrive.
