The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched a Mock-Only Trial Test as part of the 2025/2026 UTME exercise.
This test is optional and is only for individuals who do not qualify by age or do not wish to apply for admission in 2025 but want to gain experience with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system.

Who Can Register for the Mock-Only Trial Test
JAMB has made this option available for a specific group of candidates.
- Underage candidates who will not be 16 years old by 30th September 2025.
- Students not seeking admission in 2025 but want to practice the UTME format.
- Candidates still working on their O’Level results who wish to familiarize themselves with the examination process.
During profile code creation, eligible candidates will see the “Mock for Trial Testing” option. The system will automatically allow registration only for the mock test if the birthdate falls on or after 1st October 2009.

Purpose of the Mock-Only Trial Test
This test serves two main purposes.
- Helps candidates unfamiliar with the CBT format gain confidence before taking the UTME in the future.
- Allows JAMB to assess and improve its examination system before the main UTME.
JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, explained that the Mock-UTME was first introduced in 2017 to help candidates who may feel nervous using computers.
He noted that many students who use mobile phones daily may still struggle with a computer-based examination.
JAMB’s Stand on Age Restrictions
JAMB has now enforced a minimum age requirement for university admission.
This means candidates below 16 years old will not be considered for admission in 2025. However, such students are still allowed to take the mock test to prepare for future exams.
A past court ruling questioned why underage students were allowed to sit the UTME if they were not eligible for admission. JAMB’s new Mock-Only Trial Test ensures these students can practice without affecting official admissions.
How This Benefits Candidates
The introduction of this test gives younger students and SS1 or SS2 candidates an opportunity to experience the UTME format without restrictions.
JAMB has confirmed that students who opt for this test must acknowledge that it is purely for practice purposes.
This step aims to support students while ensuring that only qualified candidates proceed with university admissions.
Final Thoughts
The Mock-Only Trial Test allows candidates to prepare for UTME early while ensuring JAMB maintains strict age requirements for admission.
This decision gives underage candidates a fair opportunity to practice while keeping the UTME process structured and organised.
