JAMB Remains Sole Authority for Tertiary Admissions in Nigeria

Fake News Alert: JAMB Still the Only Approved Body for Tertiary Admissions in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Education has addressed a false report spreading across several newspapers and online platforms. The misleading story claims that the Ministry announced the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer needed for admission into tertiary schools in Nigeria.

According to the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa CON, this claim is completely untrue. He clarified that the Ministry never made or authorised any statement suggesting that JAMB’s role in the admission process has been removed.

Dr Alausa stressed that JAMB remains the only body legally recognised to conduct entrance exams and manage admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country. The established process through JAMB is still active, and any report stating otherwise should be ignored.

The Ministry has distanced itself from the false publication and is urging students, parents, and school administrators to depend solely on official sources for information. Genuine updates about admission policies can only come from the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s partnership with JAMB and other education agencies, Dr Alausa said that transparency, fairness, and credibility continue to guide Nigeria’s admission system. He added that the Ministry will keep safeguarding the integrity of the process to ensure that merit remains the key factor in all admissions.

The Ministry also reminded media outlets, bloggers, and digital publishers to confirm information before releasing it to the public. Publishing unverified claims can create confusion and undermine trust in the education sector.

Once again, the Ministry confirmed that there has been no change to JAMB’s role. JAMB continues to serve as the central authority in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process. Any news or social media post suggesting otherwise is entirely false.

For verified information and updates, the public is encouraged to visit the official websites and social media channels of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB.
