Kwara Students Protest Non-Payment of 2013, 2014 Bursary
Kwara State Students stormed Government House to protest non payment of 2013 and 2014 bursary allowance amounting to N235 million.
Students of tertiary institutions under the aegis of National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) on Wednesday stormed the Government House Ilorin to protest the non-payment of their bursary allowance by the state government.
They were protesting non-payment of 2013 and 2014 bursary allowance. The NAKSS’s president, Mohammed Lateef put the bursary arrears at N235 million.
The state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed was said to have granted representatives of the students an audience.
Ahmed according to Government House source sought the patience and understanding of the students,blaming the non payment of the allowance on dwindling allocation from the federation account.
He was quoted to have pleaded with the protesting students to be calm and not take laws into their hands.
There was heavy security presence at the Government House as a result of the protest.
Mobile policemen were seen at the entrance of the premises to prevent possible breakdown of law and order as a result of the protest.
