KWASU Issues Notice on JAMB's 1-Year Law Admission Ban
JAMB has placed a one-year ban on Law admissions at Kwara State University (KWASU). The decision follows the Council for Legal Education’s sanction over the university’s Law programme. Read further for full details.
Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has confirmed JAMB’s decision to suspend admissions into its Law programmes for one year. The suspension follows a ruling by the Council for Legal Education (CLE) over the university’s approval process when launching the programme.
Reason for the Ban
KWASU began its Law programme in 2018 with approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) but without clearance from the Council for Legal Education (CLE).
The CLE’s sanction led to JAMB enforcing a one-year suspension on Law admissions for the 2025/2026 session.
Current Accreditation Status
KWASU now holds full accreditation from both:
- National Universities Commission (NUC)
- Council for Legal Education (CLE)
The university offers two undergraduate Law programmes:
- Common Law
- Common and Islamic Law
Effect on Current Students
- The ban only applies to new admissions for the 2025/2026 session.
- Students currently enrolled in KWASU’s Faculty of Law will continue their studies without interruption.
University’s Response
KWASU has stated that it respects the decision of the Council for Legal Education and will not offer Law admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university has assured that all other academic programmes remain accredited and open for prospective students.
