Lagos State University Notice to Graduands

The Lagos State University (LASU) is gearing up for its 27th Convocation Ceremonies, an eagerly awaited event celebrating the accomplishments of its graduates. To ensure a smooth and successful ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has shared vital instructions and guidelines for all graduands.

Guidelines for Graduands

  1. Convocation Package Payment:
    To pay for your convocation package, visit LASU Payment Portal and follow the instructions on the site.
  2. Academic Gown Return:
    Return the academic gown immediately after the ceremony or latest by Friday, 7th June 2024, to avoid penalties. Late returns incur a daily fine of N500, while any lost or damaged gowns will attract a N30,000 replacement fee.
  3. Certificate Collection:
    You can collect your certificate immediately after the ceremony, provided your academic gown has been returned.
  4. Tassel Movement Protocol:
    • First-degree graduands: During the Vice-Chancellor’s declaration, “I admit you all,” move the tassel on your cap from right to left.
    • Higher-degree recipients: Keep your tassel on the left side throughout the ceremony.
  5. Proper Attire and Etiquette:
    • Seek assistance from Faculty Officers to ensure your hood and cap are correctly worn with tassels on the right side.
    • Female graduands are expected to show courtesy when shaking hands with the Vice-Chancellor, while male graduands bow but keep their caps on.
  6. Seating and Timing:
    • Parents, guardians, and guests should be seated by 8:30 a.m.
    • Graduands must join the convocation procession by 9:00 a.m. to gain entry into the auditorium.
    • Each faculty’s graduates will have specific seating arrangements in the University Auditorium.
  7. Orderliness and Photographs:
    • Stay in your designated seat throughout the ceremony, as you will not be allowed to re-enter once you leave.
    • Unauthorized movements and photographs are not allowed during the event. Complete these activities before entering the auditorium or wait until after the ceremony.
  8. Academic Procession Protocol:
    • Stand up as the Academic Procession enters and leaves the venue.
    • Ensure you are appropriately robed in your faculty’s prescribed colours.
  9. Clearance:
    • Complete your clearance in your College/School/Faculty before the convocation to facilitate certificate collection.
