Modibbo Adama University Bans Sign-Out Celebration on Campus
Modibbo Adama University has announced a total ban on student sign-out celebrations. The management says such events go against school rules and are not acceptable. Students are warned that anyone caught will face action.
Management’s stand on the matter
Modibbo Adama University, Yola, has come out firmly against what students fondly call “sign-out” parties. These end-of-study celebrations, often carnival-like, have grown in recent years, spilling across campus grounds with noise and colour.
The University management now says enough is enough. After observing the trend, the leadership has declared such gatherings unlawful within the school environment. According to them, the habit breaks existing rules and does not fit the image of a graduate the University wishes to present.
Why the ban on sign-out
The decision is not just from the school’s own rule book. Both Federal and State Governments have already placed restrictions on this style of celebration in learning centres. MAU is therefore stressing that it cannot be an exception.
The notice underlines a key point: a degree is awarded when a student is found worthy in both learning and character. A sign-out parade, the management insists, shows behaviour that does not tally with what is expected of future graduates.
Consequences for offenders
Students are advised to take this order seriously. Any graduate or undergrad caught planning or joining such celebrations “in whatever guise” will be acting at their own risk. The University has already notified its Security Office and also reached out to the Department of State Security for backup.
Final word from the University
The message is plain: sign-out parties are banned, full stop. The management wants students to channel their joy of graduation in ways that keep to discipline and respect. Degrees will still be given, but the behaviour leading up to them will be watched closely.
