Admission Requirements
i. General O’Level Requirements
Applicants must first meet the relevant O’Level requirements for the award of a first degree of the Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University:
a. A credit in English language and mathematics is required for all courses.
b. Psychology requires at least a pass in Biology or Health Sciences.
c. A credit pass in literature is required for programmes in the Department of English, Languages and Linguistics, Theatre Arts, and Law, while a pass in literature is required for the Language Education programme.
d. An O’Level credit pass in Economics is required for all Management Science courses and for Economics.
e. IJMB O’Level credit passes in Mathematics and English are acceptable in lieu of SSCE or GCE O’Level credit passes.
f. NCE English major is acceptable in lieu of O’Level literature.
g. NCE Use of English is acceptable in lieu of O’Level credit pass in English.
h. In all cases, A’Level passes supersede O’Level passes.
ii. Master’s Degree Programmes (M.Sc, M.A., M.Ed)
Candidates must possess, in addition to (i) above, a first relevant degree with a minimum of second-class lower division (CGPA 2.50) from the Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University or any other university recognized by its Senate.
Additional programme-specific requirements:
• M.Sc physiology and anatomy: B.Sc first class or second class in Physiology from the University or from any recognized university.
• Medical graduates: MBBS degree holders fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
• M.Sc mathematics and computer science:
– B.Sc in Mathematics or Computer Science with minimum CGPA 2.50.
– Candidates with degrees in related fields (Mathematics Education, Statistics, Mathematics/Statistics, Statistics/Computer Science, or PGD Mathematics) with minimum CGPA 2.50 may be considered for M.Sc Mathematics.
– Candidates with degrees in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, B.Sc (Ed) Computer and Information Management, or PGD Computer Science (minimum CGPA 2.50) may be considered for M.Sc Computer Science.
– Candidates may be required to take remedial undergraduate modules.
• M.Sc physics: B.Sc first class or second class in Physics from a recognized university.
iii. M.Sc Management and Master in Public Sector Accounting
• Minimum of second-class lower division (CGPA 2.50) in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Marketing, or Economics.
• Candidates must pass the University admission test and interview.
• Candidates with PGDM (upper credit, CGPA 3.50) may be considered, provided matriculation requirements and section (i) are satisfied.
iv. Doctor of Philosophy Programmes (PhD)
Candidates must possess, in addition to (i) and (ii), a good master’s degree with a CGPA not less than 3.50 or a “B” grade from a recognized university.
Additional programme-specific requirements:
• PhD history: Candidates with Master of Philosophy may be admitted. Those without an M.A. in History must offer 800-level courses for one academic session.
• PhD programmes in education and business management: Written and oral examinations are required.
• PhD curriculum and teaching; PhD business management: Candidates must consult the Head of Department regarding available supervisors.
• PhD law: Applications must include a research proposal.
• PhD physiology and anatomy: Candidates must be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
• PhD industrial technology education: Candidates must meet UME requirements of 5 O’Level credits, including English, mathematics, and three relevant subjects (Chemistry, Physics, Technical Drawing, Biology, Principles of Accounting, Economics, Agricultural Science, or any related subject). Screening is required.
• PhD physics: Candidates must hold an M.Sc in Physics with minimum CGPA 3.50 from a recognized university.
v. Master of Health Management (MHM)
• Degree in Medicine (MBBS or BDS), Pharmacy, Nursing (with honours), or other medical professional degrees.
• Advanced Diploma in Health Management of the University with minimum credit or any relevant postgraduate qualification.
• Candidates must also meet the O’Level requirements in (i).
vi. Master of Public Health (MPH)
• MBBS or BDS (minimum CGPA 2.50).
• Nursing, pharmacy, and other relevant health and biological science graduates are eligible.
• Experience in public health practice is an added advantage.
• Candidates must meet the O’Level requirements in (i) and pass an admission test.
vii. Master of Reproductive Health (MRH)
• Medical graduates (MBBS, BM, BCH, MD) fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
• B.Sc (first or second class) in Nursing, Physiology, or Anatomy with minimum CGPA 2.50.
• Candidates must meet O’Level requirements in (i).
viii. Master of Business Administration (MBA)
• Minimum second-class lower division in relevant business or management fields.
• Must pass University admission test and interview.
• PGDM (upper credit, GPA 3.50) holders may be considered if matriculation and O’Level requirements are satisfied.
ix. M.Sc/PhD Management/Marketing
• Candidates with CGPA 4.00 and above in M.Sc Management or M.Sc Marketing (first year) will be upgraded to the PhD programme in their specialization.
x. Master in Gender Studies (MGS)
• Bachelor’s degree with second-class honours and minimum CGPA 2.50 from a recognized university.
• Equivalent qualifications with relevant experience may be accepted.
• Candidates must meet basic O’Level requirements in (i).
General Regulations
All programmes begin with coursework and end with a project (postgraduate diplomas), dissertation (master’s), or thesis (PhD).
The duration of Degree/Diploma programmes are as follows:
Postgraduate diploma programmes
Minimum: one year
Maximum: two years
Postgraduate diploma in planning studies
Duration: 12 months
Admission requires:
• Minimum five O’Level credits including English and mathematics, plus three subjects from geography, chemistry, biology/agric science, economics, technical drawing
OR
• GCE O’Level five credit passes including English, mathematics, and two relevant subjects
AND
• Bachelor’s degree in geography, economics, sociology, psychology, estate management, building, architecture, civil engineering, or urban and regional planning (minimum third class)
OR
• HND urban and regional planning, architecture, or estate management with at least credit.
Postgraduate diploma in computer science
• Duration: 3–4 semesters
• Five O’Level credits including English and mathematics
• Minimum third class degree in computer science (CGPA 2.00) or lower credit HND
• Degree holders in engineering, architecture, mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, or geography may be admitted
Postgraduate diploma in gender studies
Open to:
• Bachelor’s degree (not below third class) or HND (not below lower credit)
• Any NUC-approved professional equivalent
• Five O’Level credits including English (maximum two sittings)
Postgraduate diploma in mass communication (PGDMC)
• Duration: three semesters
• Five O’Level credits including English and mathematics
• Minimum third class in Mass Communication (CGPA 2.00) or lower credit HND
Postgraduate diploma in accounting (PGDA)
Candidates may qualify through:
• Degree with minimum second-class lower division in a non-accounting field
• Pass or third class in accounting or related fields
• HND accounting (upper credit or lower credit)
• Master’s degree in a non-related discipline
• Other academic or professional qualifications deemed acceptable
Master’s programmes
Full-time: minimum one year, maximum two years
Part-time: minimum two years, maximum three years
Doctorate programmes
Full-time: minimum three years, maximum five years
Part-time: minimum five years, maximum seven years
Method of Application
i. Applications are available online only. Visit www.bsum.edu.ng, select Applications → Postgraduate, complete and submit the preregistration form to obtain an application number, then print the form.
ii. Proceed to Fidelity Bank with the printed preregistration form and pay a non-refundable fee of ₦20,000 using the application number.
iii. Return to the University portal, complete the online application form, upload academic credentials and other documents, and submit. Print a copy for reference.
Applicants must ensure that referees complete the online reference forms.
Applications without required documents will not be processed.
Late applications (after 30 days from advertisement) attract an additional fee of ₦5,000.
Transcript Requirement
Applicants must instruct previous institutions to send their official academic transcripts directly to:

Guidelines for Filling Application Forms
• Provide all required information; incomplete applications will be void.
• Clearly state proposed programme and area of specialization.
• Ensure official transcripts are sent to the Postgraduate School.
• Applications without official transcripts will not be processed.
• A candidate may apply to only one degree or diploma programme at a time.
• Application fee is ₦20,000.
Closing Date
The closing date for applications is 30 days from the date of advertisement.
After this date, applications will attract an additional fee.
