NAEng Opens Entries for 3rd National Innovation Competition

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) has announced the call for entries for the third edition of its National Innovation Competition. This competition seeks original engineering and scientific works from individuals or groups addressing real national challenges through creativity, research, and practical design.
Entries are welcome across diverse fields such as ICT and Telecommunications, Agriculture and Food Processing, Energy and Renewables, Infrastructure Development, Health, Waste Management, Transportation, Mining, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Climate Change, and Manufacturing.
Competition Format and Stages
Stage 1: Submission of Concept Note
Participants are to submit Concept Notes outlining their innovations between Monday, 20 October and Friday, 19 December 2025. Each submission must include:
- A brief overview of the innovation and the problem it addresses
- The social and economic benefits of the work
- A description of the engineering methods involved
- The current stage of development of the prototype
- Sketches, drawings, or photos illustrating the concept
- Profiles of key contributors or organisations involved
Each Concept Note should not exceed 20 A4 pages and must be submitted in PDF format. Submissions will be evaluated for originality, relevance to national needs, engineering depth, and potential for development. Only shortlisted applicants from Stage 1 will move to Stage 2.
Stage 2: Submission of Full Proposal
Shortlisted candidates will have one month to expand their work for Stage 2, which runs from Thursday, 15 January to Friday, 13 March 2026. The final winners will be announced in June 2026.
Eligibility and Entry Guidelines
The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) competition is open to:
- All Nigerians, except Fellows of the Academy
- Engineers, Scientists, Technologists, Technicians, and Craftsmen involved in creative technical work
- Individuals or collaborative teams
- Third-party nominations or self-nominations
Entries must clearly demonstrate engineering content and address relevant national challenges. Stage 1 submissions should be sent via email to info@nae.ng no later than Friday, 19 December 2025.
Awards and Recognition
Winning innovations will receive cash prizes, public recognition, plaques, and certificates, along with opportunities for exposure to investors to help scale their projects. The competition aims to support practical ideas that improve communities and advance engineering practice in Nigeria.
