Plateau State University (PLASU) Senate Approves New Dates for 8th and 9th Convocation Ceremonies

The Senate of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has approved new dates for the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies. During a special session, the Senate confirmed that the events will now take place on 30th and 31st January 2026, following a review of the earlier schedule set for 28th and 29th November 2025.

This adjustment came after deliberations held at the 97th regular meeting on 13th October 2025, where members agreed that the new dates would allow for better coordination and completion of other academic activities before the ceremonies.

Updated Convocation Schedule

The pre-convocation lecture will be held on 30th January 2026, followed by the main convocation ceremony on 31st January 2026. Both events are expected to bring together graduates, parents, staff, and invited guests to celebrate academic achievements at PLASU.

Senate Decisions on Academic Calendar

During the same session, the Senate reviewed and confirmed the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 session.

The First Semester commenced on Monday, 29th September 2025, while online registration for new students began on Monday, 6th October 2025. Returning students also started their registration on the same date. Normal registration for all students will close on Monday, 13th October 2025.

All admission processes for new students are expected to end on Monday, 3rd November 2025, while orientation for fresh students is scheduled for Tuesday, 4th November to Thursday, 6th November 2025.

Matriculation for new students will take place on Friday, 7th November 2025. Due to a recent warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), full classes will now commence on Monday, 27th October 2025, as approved by the Senate.

Compliance and Academic Integrity at PLASU

The Senate Chairman and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Best, called on all faculty members to adhere strictly to the new academic schedule. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the integrity and quality of PLASU’s academic programmes.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Moses Galadima, Professor Best directed that all pending results for students in levels 200 to 400 be completed and uploaded to the university’s digital management system within two weeks.

He highlighted the importance of prompt result uploads as part of preparations for the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation visit scheduled for 2nd November 2025. This exercise will assess PLASU’s compliance with updated NUC guidelines requiring digital submission of student transcripts at the end of every semester.

Closing Note

PLASU continues to demonstrate its commitment to orderly academic planning and transparent administration. By approving the new convocation dates and reinforcing deadlines for academic activities, PLASU ensures that students, staff, and the wider community remain aligned with its goals for consistent progress and academic excellence.
