PTDF Scholarship for Undergraduate & Postgraduate in Nigerian Universities

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a Federal Government agency dedicated to developing local human capacity for the oil and gas industry. For the 2023/2024 academic year, PTDF is inviting qualified Nigerian students to apply for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral scholarships in federal universities across Nigeria.

How to Apply

The application process is conducted online through the PTDF Scholarship Management Portal. Follow the instructions on the portal carefully and ensure you meet all requirements before applying.

Important Notes for Applicants

  • National Identity Number (NIN): You must have a NIN and verify it before applying (NIMC verification charges apply).
  • Previous Beneficiaries: If you have previously received a PTDF scholarship, you are not eligible to apply for the same or a lower degree category.
  • Other Scholarships: Current beneficiaries of any other scholarship should not apply.
  • Institution Restriction: The scholarship is only for students in federal universities.
  • Part-Time Studies: Part-time students are not eligible for any category of applications.

Postgraduate Scholarship Criteria (In-Country Scholarship Scheme – ISS)

MSc Requirements

  • Admission: Full-time admission into a federal university.
  • Degree: Minimum of a Second-Class Lower (2.2) in an oil and gas-related field.
  • Course Relevance: The course must relate to the management or oil and gas industry.
  • Educational Background: At least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO (not more than 2 sittings).
  • NYSC Certificate: NYSC certificate or exemption letter.
  • Indigeneship: Certificate of indigeneship.
  • Personal Statement: A 1,000-word statement explaining your reasons for choosing the course.

PhD Requirements

  • Admission: Full-time admission into a federal university.
  • Degrees: Minimum of a Second-Class Lower (2.2) in an oil and gas/management-related field, and a merit in a second-degree.
  • Educational Background: At least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO (not more than 2 sittings).
  • NYSC Certificate: NYSC certificate or exemption letter.
  • Indigeneship: Certificate of indigeneship.
  • Research Proposal: A research proposal of no more than 6 pages, including topic, introduction, literature review, research questions, methodology, data collection, expected outcomes, novelty, industry relevance, and references.

Required Documents for Postgraduate Applicants

  • First degree certificate or statement of result.
  • NYSC certificate or exemption letter.
  • WAEC/SSCE/NECO results.
  • Admission letter.
  • Personal statement (for MSc applicants).
  • Certificate of indigeneship.

Additional Documents for PhD Applicants

  • Second degree certificate or statement of result.
  • PhD research proposal.

Undergraduate Scholarship Criteria (In-Country Scholarship Scheme – ISS)

  • Enrollment: Must be a full-time student in a federal university.
  • Academic Level: Currently in 200 level.
  • Field of Study: Must be related to the oil and gas industry.
  • Educational Background: At least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO including English and Mathematics.
  • Admission: Valid admission letter into the university.
  • CGPA: Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 on a 5-point scale or 3.0 on a 4-point scale (equivalent to 2.2).
  • Transcripts: Provide first-year academic transcripts signed and stamped by the Head of Department (HOD) or authorised personnel.

Required Documents for Undergraduate Applicants

  • WAEC/SSCE/NECO results with at least 5 credits, including English and Mathematics.
  • Admission letter.
  • First-year academic transcript signed and stamped by the HOD or authorised personnel.
  • Certificate of indigeneship.
  • Personal statement of at least 300 words explaining your reasons for choosing the course.
