RSU Sets 28 January 2026 Matriculation Date, Ties It to Clearance and Registration Close

RSU Matriculation Holds 28 January 2026 and Marks Close of Clearance and Registration for Fresh Students (2025/2026 Session)

Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has issued an internal memorandum on clearance and registration for newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The memorandum was issued by the Acting Registrar, Dame Dr Idanyingi I. Daminabo.

The message was directed to Provosts, Deans of Faculties, the Director of the Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICTC), Heads of Departments, and all Faculty Officers; it places responsibility on academic units to ensure that fresh students receive the information.

Matriculation date and what it means for fresh students

RSU has scheduled the matriculation ceremony for fresh students for Wednesday, 28 January 2026, with reference to the Senate-approved academic calendar.

The memorandum also states that the matriculation ceremony marks the close of the clearance and registration exercise for the 2025/2026 academic session. Put simply, clearance and registration do not extend beyond that point.

Clearance and registration instructions

Fresh students were directed to contact their respective Faculty Officers for clearance and registration within the stipulated period. The instruction is specific: students should work through their faculty channels, rather than relying on informal guidance (or assumptions about timelines).

Deadline and the admission status warning

The university stated that any admission not regularised before the deadline will be considered as having lapsed. The warning sits alongside the matriculation date; the implication is that students who have not completed clearance and registration before the close of the exercise risk losing their admission.

Website notice for wider awareness

RSU management advised that the information should be placed on the university’s website to reach the affected students. The intention is wide awareness across faculties and departments, especially for newly admitted students who may not yet be familiar with internal communication routes.

What fresh students should take from the memo

Fresh students are urged to complete all required clearance and registration formalities promptly, using their Faculty Officers as the point of contact. The stated consequence for missing the deadline is clear; admissions not regularised in time will be treated as lapsed.
