ASUU Suspends Strike at Sa’adu Zungur University

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Sa’adu Zungur University has suspended the indefinite strike that began on November 29, 2024.

The strike was initiated to demand the implementation of pension and death benefit schemes for staff.

ASUU also sought the payment of earned academic allowances and excess workload allowances.

Meeting Ends Strike

The decision to suspend the strike followed a meeting held on December 14, 2024, at the Yuli Campus.

The ASUU branch at Sa’adu Zungur University resolved to end the industrial action after discussions with the state government.

The suspension was confirmed in a statement issued by Comrade Auwal Nuhu, the ASUU Chairperson, on Monday.

Agreement Reached Through MoU

The state government and ASUU reached an agreement formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The discussions with Governor Bala Mohammed were described as productive.

This development highlights the state government’s efforts to address educational concerns in Bauchi State.

Comrade Nuhu acknowledged the governor’s proactive role in resolving the issues.

Union to Monitor Agreement Implementation

The union decided unanimously to suspend the strike following assurances from the government.

Comrade Nuhu stated that ASUU will monitor the implementation of the agreements closely.

The union remains focused on ensuring the state government fulfils its commitments.

This marks a positive step towards addressing the concerns raised by ASUU and improving staff welfare.
