UNIBEN Clearance Update for 2025/2026 Admits
Summary
UNIBEN says no admitted 2025/2026 student will be denied clearance if the minimum entry requirements are met.
- Affected students should return to Faculties and Clearance Officers
- Optometry students earlier blocked should also report for clearance
- UNIBEN answers to NUC and the Federal Ministry of Education
- Clearance can fail only if minimum entry requirements are not met
- Deans and clearance officers must follow Management's position
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Management says it has received reports from different parts of the university on problems some students face during the clearance process for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Management says the matter affects students offered provisional admission; the focus is on clearance challenges that have slowed or stopped verification and screening in some areas.
What triggered the notice
UNIBEN Management reports difficulties in the clearance process for some newly admitted students. These reports came from various sectors of the university; the issue has now drawn a Clear line for all units handling admissions clearance.
Optometry clearance issue
Management notes that some students admitted into the Faculty of Optometry have been denied clearance into the programme. The denial, as reported, is linked to a claimed limited quota from a professional body.
UNIBEN Management stresses that the university is directly responsible to the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), not to any professional body for this purpose.
UNIBEN’s position on who gets cleared
UNIBEN states that it will not deny clearance to any student who meets the Minimum entry requirement for the programme for which provisional admission was offered.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, and the University Management also reiterate that no candidate duly offered admission into the university will be denied clearance into the programme of admission, except the candidate fails to meet the minimum entry academic requirements.
What affected students should do now
All students affected by any directive that runs contrary to Management’s position, including those admitted into the Optometry programme, are requested to return to their respective faculties and report to their Clearance Officers for prompt clearance.
Message to Deans and Clearance Officers
UNIBEN Management directs all Deans and Clearance Officers to note the university’s position on this matter and comply; clearance decisions must follow the stated rule on minimum entry requirements.
