561 First Class Graduates as UNILAG Holds 55th Convocation
UNILAG's 55th Convocation Ceremonies will host over 16,000 graduands, including 561 first-class recipients, between January 13 and 17, 2025. The event features awards, lectures, project commissioning, and honourary degrees. Read further for all details.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) will host its 55th Convocation Ceremonies from Monday, January 13 to Friday, January 17, 2025.
A total of 16,409 students will graduate across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press conference held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Graduation Statistics
The ceremony will feature graduands from first degrees, diplomas, and postgraduate programmes.
- First degrees and diplomas: 9,684 students.
- Postgraduate degrees: 6,659 students.
- UNILAG Business School: 66 students.
The breakdown of undergraduate degrees includes:
- First Class Degrees: 561.
- Second Class Upper Degrees: 3,916.
- Second Class Lower Degrees: 3,763.
- Third Class Degrees: 1,143.
- Pass Degrees: 78.
- Unclassified Degrees: 223.
Outstanding Graduands
Damilare Adebakun and Samuel Badekale from the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics emerged as the best overall undergraduate students, graduating with a perfect 5.0 CGPA.
Olamide Emida from the Department of Accounting was the best in the Humanities with a CGPA of 4.95.
Adetoun Akintoye won the award for the best PhD thesis in Sciences, while Eniola Ladipo received the best thesis award in Humanities.

Monday, January 13, 2025
- Jumat Service at UNILAG Central Mosque.
- Exhibition Opening at 9:00 am at the Senate Car Park near J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium.
- Commissioning of Projects by Chief Wole Olanipekun, including:
- Centre for Herbal Medicine and Drug Recovery.
- 120-bed extension at Moremi Hall.
- Ultra-modern Learning Commons, an extension of the main library.
- Convocation Lecture delivered by Dr Tayo Aduloju on “Universities as Hubs for Development and Wealth Creation,” chaired by Mr Babatunde Fashola.
- Groundbreaking Ceremony for the School of Postgraduate Studies building.

- Morning Session (9:00 am): Graduation for Faculties of Education and Social Sciences.
- Afternoon Session (1:00 pm): Graduation for Faculties of Arts, Environmental Sciences, and Science.
Wednesday, January 15, 2025
- Morning Session: Graduation for Faculties of Engineering, Law, and Management Sciences.
- Afternoon Session: Graduation for Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, and Distance Learning Institute.
Thursday, January 16, 2025
- Postgraduate Graduation: Awarding of Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s, and Doctorate Degrees.
- Honourary Degrees: Awards to Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Mr Kola Adesina, and Mr Fola Adeola.
- Emeritus Professorships: Awards to Professors Babajide Alo and Olukayode Amund.
Friday, January 17, 2025
- Long Service Awards Ceremony at Tolu Odugbemi Hall.
- Convocation Play titled Langbodo by Wale Ogunyemi at 4:00 pm in J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium.

- Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Christ Our Light, UNILAG, Akoka.
