UNILAG Launches Digitised Intellectual Property Registry
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has introduced a pioneering digitised Intellectual Property (IP) and Patent Registry, marking the first of its kind in Nigerian higher education. The new platform, known as the ITMO Chatbot, simplifies how staff and students access intellectual property resources and manage patent-related processes within the university.
Within the first 100 words, UNILAG reaffirms its leadership in research management and digital innovation through this groundbreaking step. The ITMO Chatbot, available at itmobot.unilag.edu.ng, provides an easy-to-use interface that offers information on IP forms, innovation hubs, and the university’s patent system.
About the UNILAG ITMO Chatbot
Developed by the Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO) under the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), the UNILAG ITMO Chatbot is a major advancement in how intellectual property and research outputs are handled. It helps both staff and students learn about patent application steps, licensing options, and available innovation resources within the university ecosystem.
Backed by Global Partnership
The project is supported by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) through the Technology Transform Grant Team. This collaboration reflects UNILAG’s dedication to promoting research commercialisation, intellectual property awareness, and technology transfer in Nigeria’s academic sector.
The chatbot’s creation represents a move toward efficiency and transparency in managing innovations. With instant access to reliable information, students and researchers can now better protect their creative works and connect with global partners.
Leading the Way in Academic Innovation
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has consistently maintained its reputation as a forward-thinking university committed to research excellence. By introducing this digital registry, the university strengthens its position as a hub for intellectual advancement, research development, and technology management in West Africa.
Closing Note
With the successful launch of the ITMO Chatbot, UNILAG continues to lead the charge in intellectual property and research innovation. The system not only simplifies access to IP resources but also reflects the university’s broader vision for a smarter, more connected academic environment.
