UNILAG Launches First-Ever Digitised Intellectual Property and Patent Registry in Nigerian Higher Education

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has introduced a pioneering digitised Intellectual Property (IP) and Patent Registry, marking the first of its kind in Nigerian higher education. The new platform, known as the ITMO Chatbot, simplifies how staff and students access intellectual property resources and manage patent-related processes within the university.

Within the first 100 words, UNILAG reaffirms its leadership in research management and digital innovation through this groundbreaking step. The ITMO Chatbot, available at itmobot.unilag.edu.ng, provides an easy-to-use interface that offers information on IP forms, innovation hubs, and the university’s patent system.

About the UNILAG ITMO Chatbot

Developed by the Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO) under the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), the UNILAG ITMO Chatbot is a major advancement in how intellectual property and research outputs are handled. It helps both staff and students learn about patent application steps, licensing options, and available innovation resources within the university ecosystem.

The project is supported by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) through the Technology Transform Grant Team. This collaboration reflects UNILAG’s dedication to promoting research commercialisation, intellectual property awareness, and technology transfer in Nigeria’s academic sector.
