University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Postgraduate Orientation Programme

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), College of Postgraduate Studies has scheduled an orientation programme for new postgraduate students admitted for the 2023/2024 academic session.

This programme applies to students across all departments in both Nsukka and Enugu campuses.

Purpose of the Orientation Programme

The orientation programme aims to introduce new postgraduate students to the university’s procedures and regulations.

This initiative is designed to promote academic excellence and ethical practices.

It also seeks to minimise delays, failures, and mistakes caused by a lack of information.

Programme Schedule

Day 1: General Online Orientation

Date: Wednesday, 20th November 2024
Time: From 10.00 am

• 10.00 am – 10.05 am: Opening Prayer.
• 10.05 am – 10.20 am: Address by the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies.
• 10.20 am – 10.40 am: Address by the Vice-Chancellor and formal opening of the orientation programme.
• 10.40 am – 11.00 am: Talk by the College Secretary on revised postgraduate regulations and timetable.
• 11.00 am – 12.00 pm: Keynote address on research and societal challenges by Prof. Uzo Okoye.
• 12.00 pm – 12.20 pm: Talk on skill acquisition as a solution to unemployment by Prof. (Mrs) A. I. C. Ezeibe.
• 12.20 pm – 12.40 pm: Discussion on library resources for research by Dr. (Mrs) Promise Ilo.
• 12.40 pm – 01.00 pm: ICT tools available for research, presented by Mr. Paul Oranu.
• 01.00 pm – 01.20 pm: Dean of Student Affairs (Prof. Boniface O. Ugwuishiwu) on creating an enabling environment.
• 01.20 pm – 01.40 pm: PG Hall Governor on self-care and hostel living.
• 01.40 pm – 02.00 pm: Questions and responses from students.
• 02.00 pm – 02.05 pm: Closing Prayer.

Day 2: Departmental and Faculty Orientation

• Date: Thursday, 21st November 2024

At the Department

Time: From 9.00 am

• 9.00 am – 9.05 am: Opening Prayer.
• 9.05 am – 9.25 am: Address by the Head of Department.
• 9.25 am – 9.40 am: Address by the Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator.
• 9.40 am – 10.00 am: Address by a senior academic staff member.
• 10.00 am – 10.20 am: Questions and answers session.
• 10.20 am – 10.25 am: Closing Prayer.
• 10.25 am – 11.30 am: Tour of departmental facilities.

At the Faculty

Time: From 2.00 pm

• 2.00 pm – 2.05 pm: Opening Prayer.
• 2.05 pm – 2.20 pm: Address by the Dean of Faculty.
• 2.20 pm – 2.45 pm: Address by the Faculty Representative to the CPGS Board.
• 2.45 pm – 3.00 pm: Address by the immediate past Dean or senior faculty member.
• 3.00 pm – 3.20 pm: Questions and responses from students.
• 3.20 pm – 3.25 pm: Closing Prayer.
• 3.25 pm – 4.00 pm: Tour of faculty research facilities and library.
