FUGASHUA Vice Chancellor Job Vacancy 2025/2026
Federal University Gashua has declared the post of Vice-Chancellor vacant by February 2026. Applications are open to qualified professors with long service in public universities. Interested candidates must follow the laid-down requirements and submit applications before the deadline.
The Governing Council of Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, has formally announced that the office of Vice-Chancellor will become vacant on 11 February 2026. The call for applications has been made both inside and outside the university.
About Federal University Gashua
FUGASHUA was founded in 2013 to broaden access to higher learning in Nigeria. Nestled in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of Yobe, the school has grown to five faculties and thirty-six undergraduate programmes. Alongside this, it runs a School of Postgraduate Studies and three research centres, including the Centre for Irrigation and Desertification Studies, the Gum Arabic Research Centre, and a Centre for Excellence.
The Role of Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive and Chief Academic Officer of the university. This means the officeholder is both head of the Senate and answerable to the Council. Duties range from overseeing policy, discipline, and administration to conferring degrees, certificates, and awards when the Chancellor is absent. It is a job that demands leadership, order, and steady judgement.
Who Can Apply
To stand a chance, applicants must:
- Be professors with at least ten years’ experience by February 2026.
- Have put in not less than fifteen years of continuous service in a public university.
- Held top posts such as Dean, Provost, Head of Department, or Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
- Show evidence of wide academic publications and research impact, with minimum h-index scores across platforms.
- Provide a vision statement, no longer than 1,000 words, outlining goals for the next five years.
- Be under the age of sixty-five at the time of assumption of office.
- Possess integrity, skill in managing funds, strong communication ability, and good health.
- Be able to attract grants, foster partnerships, and strengthen staff and student welfare.
Conditions and Tenure
The Vice-Chancellor will serve a single five-year term. Pay and benefits will be in line with federal guidelines for such offices.

Applicants must prepare thirty copies of their application and Curriculum Vitae, each signed and dated, and attach photocopies of credentials. The CV should list personal details, qualifications, publications, honours, administrative experience, and vision for the university.

All documents must arrive within six weeks from the date of publication. Referees, three in number, must also send confidential reports directly to the Registrar before the deadline.
Next Step
