COOU Secures Full NUC Accreditation for Medicine, Nursing, and More
COOU now has full accreditation for Medicine, Nursing Sciences, and several other programmes from Nigeria’s National Universities Commission. This means students can study these courses with confidence. Keep reading to see what this means for you and your future.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), located in Anambra State, Nigeria, has received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for several key academic programmes. This was confirmed in an official memo dated 29 April 2025 from the NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu.
Understand what full NUC accreditation means
Full accreditation shows that a course meets national standards set by the NUC. These standards check the quality of teaching, learning materials, facilities, and staff qualifications. When a programme is fully accredited, it means you can trust the certificate you earn.
Without full accreditation, your degree might not be accepted by employers or for further studies.

During the NUC’s October–November 2024 exercise, COOU earned full accreditation in the following courses:
- Medicine and Surgery
- Nursing Sciences
- Medical Laboratory Sciences
- Physiology
- M.Sc. in Accounting
- M.Sc. in Public Administration
- Urban and Regional Planning
- Geology
- Statistics
- Teacher education in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Economics
This means students can study these programmes knowing they meet all required standards.
Know why this is important for students
If you are applying to COOU or already a student there, full accreditation gives peace of mind. It ensures:
- Your course is officially recognised by the government
- Your degree holds value in Nigeria and abroad
- You will receive quality education with proper support and resources
It also helps when applying for jobs, further studies, or professional licences.
Learn who made this success possible
The University Management thanked the Visitor of the University and Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for his strong support. His help played a big part in achieving this result.
COOU’s progress is a positive sign for higher education in Anambra and across Nigeria. It shows that with the right backing, universities can meet top standards and offer better futures to their students.
