Babcock University Rejects Viral Claim of Indefinite Resumption Delay

Babcock University Denies Viral Fire Claim and Confirms Second Semester Resumption Dates, 12–14 January 2026

Babcock University has addressed a viral social media report claiming that resumption of the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session has been postponed indefinitely. The online post linked the alleged postponement to a supposed campus fire (described in the same report as a “fire” or “zombie” incident).

The university’s response focuses on two points: the incident described did not happen, and the resumption dates already communicated to students have not changed.

What the university said in its statement

In an official statement issued on Thursday, the university described the report as a “discredited and depraved publication” and said it was accompanied by an AI-generated image. The statement says the content was intended to mislead students, parents, guardians, and the public.

The statement also rejected the allegation of a fire across its campuses. The university’s wording is direct: “There was no fire incident and there is no fire incident whatsoever in any of the campuses of Babcock University.”

Resumption dates remain as previously communicated

The statement says there has been no change to the resumption schedule issued before the first semester holidays, as contained in the current academic calendar.

Students are expected to resume on campus between Monday, 12 January and Wednesday, 14 January 2026, as earlier scheduled.

How the university says it shares official information

Babcock University stated that it communicates official decisions through defined, credible, and verifiable channels. It also said it does not release information through anonymous or unofficial platforms.

Alongside that clarification, the statement advised students and their parents or guardians to disregard the online report. It also cautioned those spreading the claim to stop making and circulating unfounded and malicious allegations.

The statement urged the public to remain vigilant and rely only on official university communication channels for accurate information (the language is a reminder, not an invitation to debate the rumour).

Safety assurance and sign-off

The university stated that its campuses are safe, secure, and prepared to receive students.

The statement is signed by Johnson Babafemi Akintayo, PhD, Associate Vice President, Communications, Media and Branding, dated 8 January 2026.
