Federal Government Removes FUHSO Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council

The Federal Government has announced the removal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Benue State.

This decision was made due to actions that were deemed inappropriate for his position and violations of established procedures.

Reasons for Removal

Engr. Salami was accused of unprofessional conduct, including the suspension of the Vice-Chancellor without adhering to the prescribed procedures.

Despite interventions from the Federal Ministry of Education and formal requests to reverse the unlawful suspension, he refused to comply.

He was also reported to have engaged in abusive and threatening behaviour towards the Ministry’s Directors, including the Permanent Secretary.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, stated that such actions undermine the Ministry’s supervisory role over the university.

This behaviour was said to jeopardise the stability and governance of the institution.

Appointment of New Pro-Chancellor

The Minister has requested the immediate appointment of a new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for FUHSO.

This move aims to restore proper governance and ensure that the university operates within the principles of law, due process, and accountability.

Federal Government’s Commitment

These changes take effect immediately and reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to upholding good governance in the nation’s universities.

The government remains dedicated to promoting the rule of law, due process, and stability within educational institutions.

This action underscores the importance of maintaining integrity and accountability in university administration.
