IAUE Abolishes CA over Unethical Conducts by Some Lecturers
Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, IAUE has abolished Continuous Assessment (CA) to reduce cases of students being forced to buy books before they can be given assignments or pay money before scores are assigned to them.
Worried by the unethical conducts by some lecturers, Senate has approved that students should no longer be subjected to continuous assessment. This is to reduce cases of students being forced to buy books before they can be given assignments or pay money before scores are assigned to them.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele who frowned at the practice noted that computer based test would be given to students as continuous assessment and marked over 100.
300 and 400 level students would also write a computer based examination on one compulsory course in second semester. Students are therefore encouraged to pay their school fees for them to be assigned matriculation numbers which would be active only when such payment have been made.
The university identity card is ready and would be issued to all students at the end of June. The identity card would henceforth admit students into the examination hall.
Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele advised Head of Departments to assign courses to Lecturers based on competence and also urged all academic staff to attend conferences and to access funds made available for that purpose by Tetfund. He regretted the fact that there was so much money not being utilized by the academic staff to improve themselves and encouraged them to start making use of the funds.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked Professor Daniel Ndubuisi Ogum for his support in the installation of billboard of shame and excellence and warned lecturers to do the right thing.
He informed members of Senate that four lecturers were suspended for acts inimical to the system and said that many more would receive the same punishment if they do not stop sorting especially as the State Governor Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike had directed the Vice-Chancellor to deal with those found guilty or risk losing his Job.
Dean of the Faculty of Education Professor Tuwell Agina- Obu was directed to meet with the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar Mrs Hope Kue-Ikoro on a date of his choice to allocate offices to Lecturers in their new building ready for habitation and ready to be handed over to the university formally by Tetfund.
