Lagos State University (LASU) receives NUC approval for four new computing programmes

Lagos State University (LASU) has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to start four new full time undergraduate programmes in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology. This step gives LASU students more choice in technology focused study and supports skills for Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

The approval follows a recent resource visit to the university by NUC panels of experts. They checked that there are enough qualified staff, teaching spaces and learning tools to run the new degree programmes to an acceptable standard for undergraduates.

Details of the NUC approval

The NUC approval came in a letter dated 3rd November 2025, signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Mr Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission.

The letter confirms that LASU can run four new full time undergraduate programmes in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.

This approval is based on the positive report from the resource verification visit, where NUC teams looked at both human and material resources such as:

The approval at this stage applies only to full time study. Part time or other study modes are not included in this current decision.

New computing and IT programmes at Lagos State University

From the 2025/2026 academic session, LASU will offer the following four new programmes in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology:

Each area responds to present needs in technology and digital services:

These programmes give students clear paths into many roles in the tech sector, both in Nigeria and outside the country.

What the NUC approval means for students at LASU

The NUC approval means that current and future LASU students will have more focused options in computing related fields.

Instead of following only general computer science routes, students can now pick degrees that match their interest in areas such as cyber safety, software building, data work or ICT systems.

For students, this can:

For families and guardians, the NUC approval provides reassurance that these new programmes meet national quality checks for Nigerian universities.

Study mode and start date for the new programmes

The four new programmes are approved as full time undergraduate degrees starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.

This means:

Students who plan to apply for LASU admissions from the 2025/2026 session can look out for these programmes when official admission details are released by the university and relevant bodies.

LASU’s growing focus on technology education

By setting up these four computing and IT programmes with NUC approval, Lagos State University shows its steady focus on technology based learning and teaching.

The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology now has a wider mix of degree options that reflect present needs in cyber safety, software systems, communication networks and data use. The move supports Nigeria’s goal of building more skilled graduates who can work, create tools and solve practical problems in the digital space.

With these new programmes, LASU strengthens its role in training a new set of computing and IT graduates who can serve the needs of Lagos State, Nigeria and the wider global community.

Closing thoughts on LASU and the new programmes

With NUC backing for four new full time undergraduate programmes in computing and IT, LASU takes a clear step in support of technology focused higher education. The approval confirms that the university has met the needed standards in staffing and resources, and it opens fresh study choices for students who want careers linked to cyber security, software, ICT systems and data.

As the 2025/2026 academic session draws closer, LASU stands ready to welcome students who wish to build their future through these new computing degree paths.
