UNIZIK Appoints Professor Arinze-Umobi as Acting Vice-Chancellor
Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi has been named Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. She steps in as the former VC's tenure ends, with a maximum six-month term. Keep reading for more on her appointment.
Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Her appointment comes as the tenure of the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph I. Ikechebelu, officially ends.
The announcement was made on Friday, 17 May 2025 by the university’s Governing Council.
Appointment Details
The confirmation came through a letter signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Olugbenga M. Kukoyi. The letter states that the appointment is guided by Section 5(13) of the university’s Act, which limits the term of an acting vice-chancellor to a maximum of six months or until a substantive replacement is announced, whichever happens first.
Professor Arinze-Umobi is expected to assume office on Monday, 19 May 2025.
