UNIZIK Reinstates Acting Vice-Chancellor and Registrar

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) community and the general public have been informed of significant leadership changes in the institution.
This decision follows directives from the Honourable Minister of Education and approval by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

Reinstatement of Acting Vice-Chancellor
Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu has been reinstated as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with immediate effect.
This reinstatement nullifies the appointment of Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The Federal Ministry of Education, through correspondence Ref: FME/HE/CU/82/T/308 dated 20th November 2024, outlined this decision.
The correspondence was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, mni.
The appointment of Prof. Odoh by the dissolved 10th Governing Council was declared illegal.
Prof. Ikechebelu has been directed to assume full administrative responsibilities for the university.
Matters requiring the approval of the Governing Council will be referred to the Honourable Minister of Education until a new Council is reconstituted.
Reinstatement of Acting Registrar
The Honourable Minister of Education has also approved the reinstatement of Mr. Victor Ikechukwu Modebelu as the Acting Registrar of the University.
This decision follows the nullification of the appointment of Barr. Mrs. Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike as the substantive Registrar.
The appointment of Mrs. Nwokike by the dissolved 10th Governing Council was also deemed illegal.
