Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has been appointed as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka.

Key details of the appointment

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barrister Monsuru Olugbenga Kukoyi, signed the appointment letter dated 16 November 2025 and addressed it to Professor Anyaehie.

The appointment came after a successful interactive session with the joint Council and Senate Selection Board held on Saturday, 15 November 2025 at Stratton Hotel, Abuja.

The Governing Council of the university announced that the office is for a single, non-renewable term of five years and takes effect at once.

Selection process for UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor

The joint Council and Senate Selection Board met with candidates in an interactive session on 15 November 2025. During this session, the panel assessed the candidates based on their academic work, leadership record and vision for Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

After the interactive session, the Selection Board made its recommendation to the Governing Council. The Council then approved Professor Anyaehie as the substantive Vice-Chancellor and confirmed this through the letter issued by the Pro-Chancellor.

Academic background and research work

Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie is a professor of Physiology and Clinical Measurements. He was born on 16 November 1971 in Nkwere, Imo State, Nigeria.

He rose through the academic ranks and became a professor in October 2013. Over the years, he has built a strong record in teaching and research in the health sciences.

Professor Anyaehie has published more than 93 academic papers in high impact journals and other reputable journals. His work adds to knowledge in physiology and related areas, and supports training for medical and health science students.

Leadership roles across Nigerian universities

Professor Anyaehie has held several leadership roles in Nigerian universities and health-related bodies.

Previous Acting Vice-Chancellor

Professor Anyaehie succeeds Professor (Dame) Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi. She has been serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor, effective Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

This change marks the move from an acting leadership arrangement to a confirmed substantive Vice-Chancellor for Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
