PLASU Gets NUC Approval for New Academic Programmes

Plateau State University Bokkos (PLASU) has gained approval to begin six new academic programmes.
This decision was announced during the 92nd Regular Senate Meeting on 10 January 2025.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, shared details of the achievement, which expands the university’s course offerings.
New Academic Programmes
The approved programmes include:
- Medical Sciences (MBBS)
- Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharm D.)
- Statistics (B.Sc.)
- Religious Studies (B.A)
In addition, the Council of Legal Education and the Nursing Council have approved:
- Law
- Nursing Science
The National Universities Commission (NUC) conducted resource verification visits to confirm the university’s readiness.
Support and Gratitude
Professor Best credited the Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, for supporting the university’s development.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor thanked regulatory bodies for approving the new programmes.
Commitment to Staff Welfare
Professor Best addressed staff welfare issues, acknowledging delays in implementing the new minimum wage.
He explained that the university is outside the civil service system but assured ongoing negotiations with state officials.
Efforts are also being made to ensure the welfare needs of staff are met.
Resumption and Security Updates
The Senate received updates on the resumption of academic activities after the holiday break.
To improve campus safety, ID cards are being issued, and hostel accommodation has been approved for eligible students.
PLASU aims to provide quality education and ensure a secure learning environment as it expands its academic offerings.
