Bayero University, Kano, BUK, has opened admission into its 1-year Remedial Science Programme for the 2025/2026 session. The programme is set to give applicants an A-level foundation; it also prepares them for UTME, helps them build practical skills, and allows them to remedy O-level credit deficiencies.
For candidates aiming at a science-based degree, this update lays out the entry rules, admission path, fees, subjects, and application steps in clear terms.
What the BUK Remedial Science Programme is for
The university says the programme is designed to:
- Provide an A-level foundation for students
- Prepare students for the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME
- Provide students with practical skills
- Prepare students to remedy O-level credit deficiencies
BUK Remedial Science entry requirements
Applicants with SSCE O-level results or an equivalent result may apply once they meet the stated conditions.
O-level requirement
An applicant may apply with:
- A minimum of five O-level credits in relevant science subjects, including English and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings
- Less than five O-level credits, with the deficiency to be remedied before admission into a degree programme
Admission path after the remedial programme
Candidates who complete the remedial programme, possess five O-level credits including English and Mathematics, and obtain the Bayero University minimum UTME points may seek admission into a science-based degree programme based on UTME scores.
Candidates without the UTME requirement may be recommended for remedial part-time degree programmes in the School of Continuing Education, SCE; such candidates will still require regularisation with JAMB.
Available degree options after the programme
Candidates may seek admission, based on UTME scores only, into Level 100 in about forty-five science-based degree programmes. These programmes are in:
- College of Natural and Pharmaceutical Sciences
- College of Health Sciences
- Faculty of Agriculture
- Veterinary Medicine
- Computing
- Earth and Environmental Sciences
- Education
- Engineering
- School of Continuing Education, SCE
Nature of the remedial programme
The programme is domiciled in the College of Natural and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It lasts for one academic session only.
Students will register for Mathematics and any three of these subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Geography
- Physics
The course content is meant to remedy O-level deficiencies and provide A-level foundations. Optional English Language Proficiency and Computer Mastery courses will also be available at affordable additional charges.
Commencement date
The 2025/2026 session is to commence in May 2026. Candidates who obtain the required Bayero University 2026 UTME scores will be eligible for admission into a degree programme in the 2026/2027 academic session after the University Screening Exercise.
BUK Remedial Science fees and charges
The university has listed these fees:
Application fee
Five thousand naira only, N5,000.00, for processing and screening the online application.
Acceptance fee
Two thousand naira only, N2,000.00, for admitted candidates, and $10 for foreign students.
Registration fee
Sixty thousand naira only, N60,000.00, for admitted candidates. Foreign students will pay tuition fees of $100.

Applicants are to use the BUK Remedial Science application portal and follow these steps:
- Click Sign up at the bottom of the page.
- After creating an account, sign in to upload a recent passport photograph and provide the required information.
- Use a debit card or bank transfer to complete the application through Remita payment.
- Scroll right and click Check Payment Status.
