The National Universities’ Commission has approved the School of Postgraduate Studies at Claretian University of Nigeria, Maryland Nekede, Owerri, Imo State.
The approval gives the university room to move into higher-level teaching, research and professional training, with six postgraduate courses listed at this stage.
NUC Approves Claretian University Postgraduate School
Claretian University of Nigeria has received approval from the National Universities’ Commission to set up a School of Postgraduate Studies.
Very Rev Fr. Professor Wenceslaus Madu, the Vice Chancellor, announced the approval during a Senate meeting held on Thursday, 23 April 2026.
For a young university building its academic base, this marks a clear step into postgraduate education; the school can now prepare for advanced study programmes under the approved structure.
What the NUC Reviewed Before Approval
The Vice Chancellor said the approval came after a strict assessment by the NUC.
The commission checked the university’s academic capacity, infrastructure, staffing strength and readiness to run postgraduate programmes in a steady way.
