At Badr University, the team was received by Professor Ahmed Makhlouf, Dean of the School of Medicine. He was described as a scholar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a senior figure in medical education reform in Upper Egypt.
What FULOKOJA said during the visit
Professor Ibileye said the university is committed to building a "world-class" College of Health Sciences and sees international partnership as part of that aim.
He also described FULCOHS as "a college in formation"; he said the decisions taken at this stage will shape the college for decades.
The Vice-Chancellor also linked the proposed partnership to the need for more healthcare workers in Nigeria. He cited a doctor-to-patient ratio of about 1:4,000, far from the World Health Organization's 1:1,000 ratio and said the gap is wider in Kogi State.
He added that Nigeria needs more doctors, but also doctors who are competent, compassionate and community-oriented.
Where FULOKOJA stands now
Federal University Lokoja was established in 2011. By 2024, it had grown into a multi-faculty university with 42 fully accredited programmes.
Its College of Health Sciences, FULCOHS, is based at the Adankolo Campus. The college is anchored by a Federal Teaching Hospital that was upgraded in 2023, giving it a strong clinical training setting comparable to leading medical schools in Nigeria.
The university's MBBS programme has approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). In January 2026, the programme completed full MDCN accreditation, placing FUL among Nigeria's recognised medical training universities.
Beyond Medicine, the College offers accredited programmes in Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science and Pharmacy (Pharm.D.).
Areas named for the proposed partnership
The visit set out several Key areas for possible work between FULCOHS and BUC:
- Basic Medical Sciences, including Human Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics
- Laboratory Medicine programmes in Pathology, Haematology, Microbiology, Virology and Clinical Pharmacology
- Student exchange through supervised elective clinical attachments
- Simulation-based training, clinical skills development and telemedicine
- Faculty exchange to help close staffing gaps and support academic growth
- Joint postgraduate research, publications and conference participation
What the visit leaves on the table
Professor Ibileye said a formal link with BUC would help guide FULCOHS as it takes early decisions on its growth. He said working with a reputable university would help shape those choices through global best practice.
The visit closed with both universities showing openness to deeper engagement and future collaboration.
