Federal Polytechnic, Ukana has announced job vacancies for academic, administrative and support staff.

The recruitment notice invites qualified candidates to apply for several posts across the polytechnic, following Federal Government directives on manpower development in polytechnic education and the rise of academic programmes from 21 to 41.

About Federal Polytechnic, Ukana

Federal Polytechnic, Ukana was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2014.

The polytechnic is located at Ukana, Km 5, Ikot Ekpene-Abak Road, Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, and the Federal Polytechnics (Amendment) Act 2019 gives legal backing to its establishment.

Federal Polytechnic, Ukana runs on two campuses: the Main Campus and the Annex.

It has five schools, and all its academic programmes have received accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The polytechnic also stated that it has modern infrastructure and equipment.

Academic Staff Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates for teaching posts must meet the stated academic, work experience, publication and professional membership requirements.

The higher posts also require evidence of academic leadership, administrative leadership, research work and community service.

Chief Lecturer, CONPCASS 9

A candidate needs a PhD in a relevant field from a recognised school with at least 15 years of cognate experience.

A candidate with a Master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognised school needs at least 18 years of cognate experience.

The candidate must also meet these conditions:

Principal Lecturer, CONPCASS 8

A candidate needs a PhD in a relevant field from a recognised school with at least 12 years of cognate experience.

A candidate with a Master’s degree in a relevant field needs at least 15 years of cognate experience.

The candidate must also meet these conditions:

Senior Lecturer, CONPCASS 7

A candidate needs a PhD in a relevant field from a recognised school with at least six years of cognate experience.

A candidate with a Master’s degree in a relevant field needs at least eight years of cognate experience, with clear ability in applied research and industrial work.

The candidate must also meet these conditions:

Lecturer I, CONPCASS 6

A candidate may qualify with a PhD in a relevant field from a recognised school, plus at least three years of teaching, research and industrial experience.

Other accepted routes include a Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field from a recognised higher school, with at least five years of teaching or research experience.

A candidate with a good first degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field needs at least seven years of post-qualification teaching or research experience in a higher school.

The candidate must also meet these conditions:

Lecturer II, CONPCASS 5

A candidate may qualify with a PhD in a relevant field from a recognised higher school.

A candidate may also qualify with a Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field from a recognised school, plus at least three years of cognate experience.

A candidate with a good first degree or equivalent professional qualification needs at least six years of relevant post-qualification teaching, research or industrial experience.

The candidate must also meet these conditions:

Lecturer III, CONPCASS 3

A candidate needs a Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field from a recognised school, plus at least three years of cognate experience.

A candidate with a good first degree or equivalent professional qualification needs at least six years of relevant post-qualification teaching, research or industrial experience.

The candidate must also meet these conditions:

Assistant Lecturer, CONPCASS 2

A candidate needs a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised school.

The degree must be at least Second Class Lower Division, and the candidate must have completed NYSC.

The candidate must also be willing to pursue postgraduate qualifications.

Technologist II, CONPCASS 2

A candidate needs a Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification, plus NYSC discharge certificate.

A candidate may also qualify with a full technological certificate or equivalent qualification, with at least three years of relevant experience.

Associate Membership of the Institute of Science Technologists, AIST, is also required.

Instructor, CONPCASS 2

A candidate needs a Higher National Diploma in a relevant field from a recognised school, plus NYSC discharge certificate.

A candidate may also qualify with City and Guild FTC, plus Technical Teachers’ Certificate obtained at FCE Technical, with two years of working experience.

Non-Teaching Staff Qualifications

Non-teaching applicants should check the post that matches their qualification and experience.

Confidential Secretary I, CONTEDISS 08

A candidate needs an HND in Secretarial Studies with at least three years of cognate experience.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is also required.

Procurement Officer I, CONTEDISS 8

A candidate needs a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or any other discipline from a recognised school.

The degree must be at least Second Class Lower, and the candidate must have completed NYSC.

Higher Stores Officer, CONTEDISS 7

A candidate needs an ND in Business Studies, Purchasing Power or Marketing.

The candidate also needs at least three years of cognate experience.

Craftsman, CONTEDISS 04

A candidate needs Trade Test I in a relevant craft.

The candidate must also have five years of practical experience.

Health Record Assistant, CONHESS 3

A candidate needs a Senior School Certificate with four passes at one sitting.

The alternative is five passes at two sittings in relevant subjects.

Conditions of Service

The conditions of service follow the rules used across Federal Polytechnics, based on the guidelines of the National Board for Technical Education and the Federal Government.

The positions are pensionable and come with approved allowances.
