About UN FAO Regular Volunteer Programme for Africa
FAO leads global initiatives to fight hunger and provide food security to all.
With over 195 Members, FAO operates in more than 130 countries worldwide, striving to make sure everyone has access to quality food.

The FAO Regular Volunteer Programme allows individuals to volunteer their skills to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The programme contributes to the 2030 Agenda, aiming for sustainable agri-food systems for improved production, nutrition and a better environment, ensuring no one is left behind.
How the Programme Works
This programme actively mobilises volunteers to help combat hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity.
Volunteers are assigned a supervisor and work in fields relevant to FAO's goals.
Volunteers will contribute directly to FAO's mission, providing crucial assistance in developing agricultural and food systems.
Eligibility Criteria for UN FAO Regular Volunteer Programme for Africa
- Applicants must complete secondary school education.
- Applicants need to know at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish). Knowing a second language is an added benefit.
- Applicants must be nationals of FAO Members.
- Candidates must be 18 years or older.
- Applicants must adapt to a multicultural environment and have good communication skills.
Important Details About the Programme
FAO does not request any fees during the recruitment process, whether during application, interviews or processing.
Qualified female applicants, nationals from non-represented or under-represented Members and candidates from Low-Income Food-Deficit Countries (LIFDCs), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Land-locked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are highly encouraged to apply.
All applications are reviewed and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
Selected candidates must have appropriate residence or immigration status before joining the programme.
Candidates with family members (defined as mother, father, sister, brother, daughter or son) already employed by FAO are ineligible for this programme.
FAO does not offer any financial compensation to volunteers.
