JAMB Bemoans Lack of Transparency in Admission Process
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has accused some tertiary institutions of failing to disclose admission offers to candidates.

Some tertiary institutions of learning in the country have been accused by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board of having the practice of opting for “crooked options” by failing to disclose admission offers granted to candidates.
In 2021, JAMB announced that it had discovered 706,189 undisclosed admission offers made to candidates by tertiary institutions.
The admission offers were made outside of the Central Admissions Processing System, according to the board.
In JAMB’s latest bulletin, the board’s Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, stated, “It is disheartening today to see some institutions opting for the crooked option that lacks transparency or accountability through undisclosed admission offers.”
According to the bulletin, Oloyede made the remark at the maiden matriculation of the Department of Nursing Education, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Osun State, while being represented by the Osun State Coordinator of JAMB, Babatunde Jacob.
“The primary goal of implementing the Central Admissions Processing System in 2017 was to eliminate pre-existing procedures in admission processes.” Following the noble intervention of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, the board agreed to retroactively condone candidates who were offered secret admission by some tertiary institutions from 2017 to 2021,” he added.
As a result, he urged concerned institutions to discontinue such practises and follow the board’s directive that all admissions be handled through CAPS.
