JAMB Boss Tearfully Apologises Over UTME Mistakes
JAMB has admitted errors in the 2025 UTME exam, with its registrar publicly apologising. This article explains what went wrong, how it affects candidates, and what you can do next.
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed there were errors in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). During a press briefing in Abuja, Registrar Ishaq Oloyede admitted the board received many complaints from candidates about incorrect scores and processing issues.
He became emotional during his apology, saying, “What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors.” Despite putting systems in place to avoid mistakes, problems still occurred.
Learn how the errors have affected candidates
Many candidates reported that their UTME scores were much lower than expected. Out of nearly 1.9 million test-takers, more than 1.5 million scored below 200 out of 400. That’s an unusually high number, and it raised questions across the country.
This has caused frustration and confusion, especially for students who prepared well. Some said their results did not match what they saw during the exam or when checking online afterwards.
JAMB has not yet released full details of how the errors happened. However, the registrar has promised a full investigation and correction where needed. He said the board is working to check affected cases and will release updates soon.
