JAMB Extends 2025 Admissions Deadline for Public Universities
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially extended the deadline for public universities to complete their 2025 admission processes. This update follows the earlier timeline set during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on 18 July 2025 under the chairmanship of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON.
Initially, JAMB fixed 31 October 2025 as the deadline for all public universities to conclude their admissions. The extension now shifts the final date to Monday, 17 November 2025, to accommodate new developments and ensure that no qualified candidate is left out of the process.
Why JAMB Extended the Admission Deadline
The decision to extend the timeline was based on two key reasons:
- Appeal by the AVCNU: The Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities requested an extension due to disruptions caused by a court order on the 2025/2026 admission list. The directive was only lifted on 28 October 2025, affecting the admission schedules of several universities.
- Newly Accredited Programmes: The National Universities Commission (NUC), on 29 October 2025, released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes across 37 universities. Admissions into these courses are still being processed, and JAMB aims to provide adequate time for fair inclusion.
Commitment to Transparent Admissions
JAMB commended the dedication and effort of public universities that worked diligently to meet the initial deadline. The Board emphasised that this extension serves to uphold fairness and inclusivity across the tertiary education system.
The new closing date of 17 November 2025 is described as final, and all institutions are expected to conclude their admissions before that date.
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent, credible, and orderly admission process that supports the national education framework and respects the autonomy of universities.
Closing Note
JAMB continues to prioritise a fair and structured admission process for candidates across Nigeria. With the extension, public universities are expected to finalise all admission lists promptly, ensuring that every qualified candidate secures a place before the 2025 academic year begins.
