ASUU Strike: No admission offer has been cancelled, says JAMB
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, declared yesterday that the ASUU strike had not affected admissions to universities, polytechnics, or institutes of education.
According to JAMB, "No admission has been cancelled for any session or institution except by the senate of that institution. We have all admissions for 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023 sessions, and they will not expire. It is now up to the universities to decide which and how to go about it."
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, announced yesterday that no admissions to universities, polytechnics, or institutes of education had been suspended or postponed as a result of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU’s, protracted strike.
Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, said this prior to opening the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, in Abuja.
Prof. Oloyede, among others, stated, “The responsibility for admitting students lies with the respective schools.” JAMB is a centre for coordination. JAMB cannot and will not determine the calendar of an institution. You are aware that universities and specialised institutes are still in academic year 2020/21. Some are enrolled in the 2021/2022 academic year, while others are enrolled in the 2022/2023 academic year. There are now three academic terms in session at universities in various regions of the country. My recommendation is that candidates contact their individual institutions to see which session is active.
“No admission has been cancelled for any session or for any university unless that institution’s senate states so.” All admissions for these three sessions have not lapsed and will not lapse, and it is now up to the institutions to decide which and how to proceed.”
