JAMB Reduces UTME Fees for Visually Impaired and Disabled Candidates
JAMB reduces UTME registration fees for visually impaired candidates and those with other disabilities, aiming to improve access to tertiary education.
The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) fee has been reduced to N3,500 for visually impaired candidates and others with disabilities.
This adjustment is part of efforts to enhance access to tertiary education for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced this during a recent press briefing.
Why the Fee Reduction Matters
This move aims to improve opportunities for PWDs in pursuing higher education.
The JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, shared the importance of equal access to education.
This change reflects a step towards reducing barriers and creating more inclusive educational environments.
Announcement of the Conference
In line with this initiative, JAMB will host its first Africa Regional Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education (ARCEAHED).
The event will be held from September 17-18, 2024 at the Idris Abdulkadir Conference Hall, National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja.
Focus on Equal Access
The conference will focus on improving access to education for PWDs across Africa.
Delegates from countries like Ethiopia, Malawi, and Egypt will participate.
Discussions will address challenges and explore innovative ways to make education accessible for all.
JAMB’s Commitment to Inclusivity
Oloyede emphasised the importance of not just providing opportunities but ensuring these opportunities are accessible.
Education, being a fundamental human right, must include everyone, regardless of physical, sensory, or cognitive limitations.
The upcoming conference is a platform to advance these goals and improve the educational landscape for PWDs.
This reflects JAMB’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity in education across the continent.
