The Lagos State University (LASU) is preparing for an exciting event as its Centre for Afrobrazilian Studies (LASUCAS) is set to hold its third International Conference.
This highly anticipated conference will bring together scholars and experts from around the world to explore the rich connections between Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The conference will take place over three days, with the following details:
- Date: Monday, 28th – Wednesday, 30th October 2024
- Venue: Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos
- Time: 9:00 a.m.
The theme for this year's conference is "Bridging the Atlantic: Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa, South-South Partnering for Growth."
Last Call for Papers: Diverse Sub-Themes
The conference is being organised in collaboration with several institutions from Brazil, including the Federal University of Bahia, Instituto Hoju in Rio de Janeiro and the Laboratory of African Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Researchers are invited to submit papers on a wide range of topics, including:
- Education and curriculum development of African language and culture in Brazil
- Politics, society, democracy and economy
- Alternative medicine, traditional medicine and modern science
- Afro-diasporic literature and epistemology
- Linguistics, socio-linguistics and communication
- African and Afro-Brazilian culture and identities
- Ifa and traditional religion in Brazil and Africa
- The Brazilian arts and architecture
- Racial classification and black identity
- Music, dance and performance in Africa and Brazil
- Theatre in African and Brazilian societies
- African culinary traditions in the New World
- African and Afro-Brazilian philosophy and pedagogy
- Science, technology and agriculture
- Racism, necropolitics and ethnic segregation
- Black diaspora and city production in Brazil and Africa
- Patriarchy, matriarchy and gender issues
Registration and Fee Information
- Presenters: N20,000
- Postgraduate Students: N15,000
- Foreign Participants: $20
- Foreign Postgraduate Students: $10
The registration deadline has been extended to Monday, 14th October 2024.
